The predecessor of Huwei Jianguo Military Village, an early rural settlement, evolved into a military camp at Huwei Airport in response to wartime needs during World War II, and was changed to an Air Force Military Village after the war, from the 1960s to the 1980s, it is the common memory of many Huwei people in the years of war and chaos. In 2006, as the last family moved out according to the policy, the history of the military village came to an end, and it also made us stop and think about the future of this place.
In 2019, a team of architects took over the renovation of the site, based on the principle of maintaining the old trees and existing building facades, repairing the ugly structure, and stitching together the texture of the broken space.
The lighting scheme takes "landscaping" as the core of the design, deliberately using chiaroscuro to create light levels and guide perceptual movement at night. The light color is selected from 2700K to 3000K warm color temperature, which reflects the preserved historical traces, rendering a nostalgic atmosphere, strengthening the historical texture of the space, and allowing visitors to feel the scenery of 50 years ago as if they were back in the most lively golden age of the military village.
The charming space charm of the military village comes from the rich and diverse scales formed by the addition and renovation of different eras, and is matched with retro-style wall lamps and customized lamps and lanterns, which highlights the unique character of the site. In addition, the lighting design uses GOBO luminaires to occasionally project images of aircraft, which is a surprise and a metaphor for the historical background of this area as a village for the families of the Air Force.
The revival of Huwei Jianguo Military Village is not only the renovation of buildings and the lighting of lights, but also the rebirth of this barren land, attracting local young people who make a living in big cities to return, and the gradual rise of cafes, cultural shops, bookstores, boutique campsites, etc., indicates that Huwei Jianguo Military Village is about to usher in a glorious historical chapter.
