For thousands of years, the history books of the mainland have recorded many times that the Japanese state sent envoys to the court.
The earliest written records are currently from Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of the Han Dynasty.
"The Book of the Later Han Dynasty · the Biography of Dongyi" once contained: In the second year of Emperor Guangwu of the Han Dynasty, in 57 AD, the Wa State sent an envoy to pass through, and the envoy claimed to be a doctor.
Japan was very primitive at that time, large and small tribes, fighting back and forth, the so-called sending envoys to pay tribute, but only one of the larger tribes. They have heard of the prestige of the Han Dynasty for a long time, and one of them wants to take some humble tribute to get a rich reward. The second is to ask the Emperor of the Han Dynasty to give them a resounding name, in order to demonstrate the prestige of the Han Dynasty.
Liu Xiu looked at the messenger who had crossed the sea thousands of kilometers away and came from nine deaths, his heart softened, and he issued an edict to give the messenger a golden seal and a purple ribbon. The gold seal is engraved with "King of Han Weinu".
After bringing it back, he made the tribal leader very happy, and regarded himself as a Japanese country. Later, Japan was collectively referred to as the Wakoku. This precious gold seal was discovered in Kyushu in the eighties of the last century, proving the reliability of the Hanshu.
However, the Japanese are very unhappy, and the word "倭" follows the people from the committee, and the committee also speaks. "Wei" means "soft stature" and "short stature". "People" and "committee" together mean "a person who is short and thin in stature". It is likely that because he saw that the envoy was less than one and a half meters tall, Liu Xiu had an idea and gave the word "倭".
After that, the ancient Wa Kingdom often sent envoys to fight the autumn wind, and there are many records in the history books.
However, the focus of our issue is that sandwiched between the Sui and Tang dynasties after the Eastern Han Dynasty, there was a special historical period in the mainland, which was the Northern and Southern Dynasties.
We have found this extremely valuable historical material, which can glimpse how much the Japan archipelago cares about the title given to them by China. Just like counterfeit goods that have been approved and authorized by genuine companies, the gold content has been greatly increased, and they will dance happily.
According to the "Book of Song" of Liu Song of the Southern Dynasty, it was recorded: In 421 AD, in the second year of Yongchu, Liu Yu replaced the Eastern Jin Dynasty not a few days later, the island country finally broke away from the matrilineal clan and tribe, and the previous prestigious Queen Himiko era ended, and a man who was replaced by the king of Wa took power and unified the ministries.
He admired China so much that he immediately sent tribute to Liu Song to ask for canonization, becoming the first Wa king to send tribute, and there is also a view that he was the 16th Emperor Nintoku. It is estimated that the northern Wawang Zan thinks that he is a Hu person, not orthodox.
Emperor Wu of Song was very happy, this was the widow for Zhengshuo, and immediately issued an edict to canonize the king of Anton as the general and the king of the widow. This should be the beginning of the establishment of the shogunate in Japan, which led to the shogunate's control of Japan in the shogunate era.
Liu Yu died suddenly two years later, failing to complete the great cause of unifying the north.
In 438 AD, Wawang Zhen, who may have been the 18th Emperor Anyway and the younger brother of Zan, sent an envoy to Liu Song to ask Emperor Wen of Song Liu Yilong to canonize him as the governor of Baekje Silla and the military commander of Qin Han Muhan, the general of Andong, and the king of Wa.
Emperor Wen of Song was taken aback, and the ambitions of this Wa Kingdom were too great.
To put it simply, we are very familiar with Baekje and Silla, Renna is also known as Benhan, Muhan is also known as Mahan, and Jinhan is also called Jinhan - Benhan, Mahan, and Jinhan is the three Hans in the traditional sense. If you count them, there are probably five small countries in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. The rest is the powerful Goguryeo, which once dealt a severe blow to Emperor Yang of Sui, which is a later story.
This Wa Wang Zhen was so inflated that he hoped to canonize him as the governor of these regions, in other words, Korea would be the territory of the Wa Kingdom in the future. It seems that Japan's annexation of Korea has been coveted for thousands of years.
In addition, it was originally General Anton, but this time he was directly promoted to General Anton, and the difference of one word is huge. Directly benchmark against Liu Song's titles of General Yu Ying, King of Baekje, General of Zhendong, and King Gao Lian of Goguryeo (i.e., King of Longevity) of General Zhengdong in order to fight against the Northern Wei Dynasty. Emperor Wen of Song categorically refused this, and the Wawang Zan only received the title of Wa King and General Anton.
Subsequently, the three emperors who succeeded the Wa Kingdom by virtue of a coup d'état or seeking power to usurp the throne, the three emperors of Wawangji, Wawangxing, and Wawangwu, also frequently asked Liu Song to canonize them as the Great General of Anton. Even the military of the original six kingdoms plus the seven kingdoms of Baekje had to be treated with the same Kaifu Yi and the three divisions as Goguryeo, and the first two were directly blacked out by Emperor Liu Song.
Until Song Shun Emperor Liu Punctuality, only a ten-year-old doll, the power was held by the King of Qi Xiao Daocheng, in order to seek power and usurp the throne, buy people's hearts, he on behalf of Liu Song finally approved the request of the Wa Wang Wu perseverance, and named the Wa Wang Wu as "the edict of the military envoys, the capital governor of the war, Silla, Renna, Garo, Qin Han, Mu Han Six States of the military, the general of Andong, the king of the Wa".
After more than 50 years, the Japanese state was jubilant, believing that the annexation of the Korean Peninsula had been officially authorized, and that the use of military force in the future was justified.
But where did this king of the Japanese expect that Xiao Daocheng's words did not count, and when he forced Emperor Shun to establish the Southern Dynasty Qi in 479, Xiao Daocheng turned his face, except for the general of Zhendong and the king of the Japanese kingdom, he did not recognize anything else. The widow still has to have good relations with those countries to fight against the Northern Dynasties.
The angry Wu Guowu, Bageya Road, was helpless, and he did not send any more envoys to China for more than a hundred years.
Speaking of which, it is very complicated, and it will involve the entanglement of grievances with the Korean Peninsula and the battle of Baijiangkou, which will affect the pattern of Central Asia in the future.
