The book has a total of 12 chapters and more than 80,000 words, based on the past events of the revolutionary base in the southern waist of Youyang, and slowly unfolds a poetic and heart-warming revolutionary legend with pure children's eyes.
The protagonist of the story is a young farmer from Longxi Town, known as "Black Sunfinch", who lives with his sick mother, and his life is difficult but full of fun. As a small lacquer cutter, he catches birds, practices martial arts, and tricks, and is omnipotent; has a good singing voice, whenever he sings a mountain song, he can always win the top position in the town's mountain song competition.
In the spring of 1934, Longxi Primary School welcomed a new teacher, Bai He. The ruby harmonica in his hand, with its melodious sound, instantly attracted the attention of the black cockpinch and quietly changed the trajectory of his life. From the initial jealousy and dispute, to the later mutual understanding and support, a series of twists and turns and moving stories occurred between the black sunbird and the white crane. From the naughty act of the black sunbird stealing the ruby harmonica, to the white crane's generous donation of medicine to save his mother; From the smart fighting commissioner on the Qingfeng Tower, to the two walking side by side on the revolutionary road...... They influence each other and grow together. White cranes gradually integrated into village life, learning to weave straw hats, catch yellow eels, and cook vegetable tofu. And the black sunbird also fell in love with books, read and write, practiced calligraphy, and became a "mountain song teacher" of the Red Army University. The friendship between the two is as melodious and elegant as the sound of the ruby harmonica, and the high-pitched and simple mountain song of the black sunbird complements each other, and together creates a brilliant "double gem" of the Red Army's literature and art in the southern waist realm. However, the road to revolution was not an easy one. During a liaison mission, the two were intercepted by the enemy. At the moment of life and death, Bai He resolutely chose to cover the retreat of the black sunfinch, but he unfortunately died. At the time of his parting, he presented the ruby harmonica, which symbolizes the revolutionary spirit and deep friendship, to the black sunbird.
"Ruby Harmonica" is not only a work about the inheritance of the revolution, but also a masterpiece that deeply depicts the deep concern and expectation of the Chinese Communists for the growth of children and teenagers. The book also delicately outlines the unique natural scenery, ethnic customs and cultural landscape of Wuling Mountain, vividly records the touching stories of the revolutionary base area in the southern waist area, and profoundly expresses the author's deep thinking on spiritual growth, life education, poetic life, and the proposition of war and peace.
