At 21 o'clock on October 17, in the operating room of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, a race against time was underway: two kidney transplants were carried out at the same time. The transplants were received by two uremia patients. At 2 a.m. on the 18th, the operation was successfully completed, and the two patients will be reborn.
"I heard that the organ donor is a medical worker, and even though we don't know her, we really appreciate her great love." On the afternoon of the 18th, a family member of a uremia patient who underwent transplant surgery said.
The kidney donor, You Xiangping, is a nurse from the People's Hospital of Longshan County, Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province. After completing the "last life-saving life" in her life, You Xiangping's life was forever fixed at the age of 49, but her donation of two kidneys and one liver gave 3 patients who had never known each other hope of life.
You Xiangping graduated from technical secondary school in 1995 and worked in the clinical nursing position of Longshan County People's Hospital for 25 years, successively serving as the head nurse of the orthopedic department and the director of the outpatient department; In 2020, he was appointed as the head of the Personnel Division.
Over the past 30 years of work, You Xiangping has consistently dedicated herself, soothing the pain of patients with gentle hands and giving strength to patients with warm smiles. She has stayed up late countless times to work overtime, regained countless dying lives from the hands of death with the doctors, stuck to her post day and night, and led the nurses and sisters to do their best for the health of patients.
She treats every patient like a relative, caring for her with care and meticulousness; Her professionalism and compassion have made her a good nurse in the hearts of her patients and a role model in the eyes of her colleagues.
You Xiangping is generous, cheerful, amiable, enthusiastic and helpful, often solves problems for others, and is deeply loved and liked by colleagues; In life, she is optimistic, loves sports, and infects everyone around her with positive energy; Treating her family, she respects her elders and cares for her relatives, setting a good example for her younger generations.
However, the sky is unpredictable. On the evening of October 8, You Xiangping fell on a bicycle and suffered a severe head injury, and after more than 7 hours of surgery, she was sent to the intensive care unit (ICU) for treatment, however, luck did not befall her.
After nine days of treatment in the intensive care department, You Xiangping was declared brain dead. At this moment of despair, You Xiangping's family made a shocking decision to donate her organs so that her life could continue in another noble way.
On October 17, this sad day, You Xiangping's life was forever fixed at the age of 49. Witnessed by the Office of the Organ Donation and Procurement Organization (OPO) of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and the Organ Donation Coordinator of the Red Cross Society of Xiangxi Prefecture, You Xiangping's family completed the relevant procedures for organ donation. Before the organ procurement operation, the hospital and the Red Cross held a solemn farewell ceremony for her body.
Outside the operating room, colleagues waited with reverence and grief, mourned silently, wept, and said their final goodbyes to You Xiangping. They know very well that this is not only the reluctance, respect and remembrance of You Xiangping, but also the awe of life.
"Even at the end of her life, she continued her mission in another way, completing the last 'life-saving life'. Donated organs will bring new life to those struggling on the brink of life and death, giving them the opportunity to embrace a better life again. Wang Houping, deputy director of the Department of Critical Care Medicine of Longshan County People's Hospital, said movingly at the farewell ceremony of You Xiangping's body after completing organ donation.
"My sister is a kind person, she is usually very enthusiastic about people and things, and donating organs can bring hope to other people. I believe that this is also what my sister is willing to do. You Xiangping's brother-in-law told Rong Kun that the family hopes to leave a memory for all her relatives, friends and colleagues who care for her in another way to continue her life.
It is reported that the liver donated by You Xiangping has also been transplanted into a liver failure patient who is in urgent need of organs for the first time through the Chinese Human Organ Allocation and Sharing Computer System (COTRS).
