Alice in Wonderland Season 1 Episode 1

Alice froze, back to bed.

Silence. Another roar of laughter from the men downstairs. Either her mother was asleep already- or

pretending to be.

As Alice hurried down the long staircase. the smooth wood of the banister felt like polished bronze under her small hands. She stopped in the doorway of the study, transfixed by the sight of her father.

Alice pulled open the bedroom door, and the plain lace curtains by the window fluttered. She crept into the hall like a ghost in a white nightgown. As I passed my mother's room, the floor beneath my feet creaked.

Alice froze, waiting for her mother to order her to go back to her room to sleep.

However, there was no sound. Then there was another burst of laughter downstairs. The mother was either already asleep—or she was pretending to be asleep.

Alice hurried down the long staircase, her little hand brushing the smooth wooden staircase handrail like touching a polished bronze. She stopped at the door of the study and looked at her father in a daze.
