In the new exhibition area, various environmental elements such as mountain rocks, waterfalls, false trees, and trees and shrubs are abundant, and the exhibition area is also decorated with insect and fungal specimens native to southern Asia, making the simulated forest habitat in the exhibition area more vivid and active, and also allowing visitors to understand what are the strange and interesting "neighbors" in the forest habitat inhabited by pythons.
It is reported that the upgrading of the python exhibition area has set the tone of ecology after repeated discussions between the director of the amphibious reptile hall and the breeders. The staff planted small shrubs, ferns and laid turf in the exhibition area, making the exhibition area full of natural atmosphere.
Many of the decorations in the exhibition area are found by the keepers in the zoo, including wood, rattan, stones and some characteristic plants, and the ingenuity of the keepers makes the seemingly inconspicuous small objects a beautiful scenery in the exhibition area.
In addition to the elaborate plants, another highlight of the exhibition area is the specimens of insects and fungi that are both genuine and fake. In order to mimic the wild environment, the keepers chose a number of insect and fungal specimens that live in the same habitat as pythons to decorate the exhibition area. These insect specimens include subtropical and tropical forest insects in Asia - giant saw shovel armor, unicorn (double-forked rhinoceros golden turtle), golden turtle with convex flowers, large bamboo elephant, black grasshopper, etc., which are adhered to the ends of false trees, allowing visitors to see clearly and not easily touching pythons.

The round-nosed monitor lizard is a national first-class protected animal. In February last year, the Shanghai Zoo successfully bred round-nosed monitor lizards for the first time. In January this year, the round-nosed monitor lizard family added a new ding. Now, the good news of the egg laying of the monitor lizard has come, hoping to hatch successfully and give birth to the baby monitor lizard for the third time. Seeing that the monitor lizard family is growing, it's time to renovate their home.
The keepers of the two climbers worked together to rearrange the monitor lizard exhibition area in just 3 days. According to the characteristics of the round-nosed monitor lizard in the wild mainly living in the mangrove forest and the dense forest near the water, the environmental arrangement replaced the laterite, planted many tropical and subtropical plants, planted densely and sparsely, not only providing the necessary shelter for the animals, tourists can also watch the animals from different angles.
Baby monitor lizards that breed in February this year have grown up and have quickly adapted to their new environment, often hidden in greenery and not easily spotted. The monitor lizard father and mother are not so rigid, and when they return home, they quickly swim in the pool, wash and study the new home. The mother monitor lizard first ran to the cave that had been dug earlier, perhaps to see if the small round-nosed monitor lizard was safe, or maybe to see if the spawning place dug earlier was safe. In order not to affect the reproduction of monitor lizards, the large and small cave keepers they dig do not bother too much, hoping to see more small round-nosed monitor lizards walking through the trees in the coming year.
