Today's Three Kingdoms idiom story is found in the Book of Jin and the Chronicle of Emperor Xuan, which is a commentary on Sima Yi by Emperor Taizong of Tang after the book was written, and the original text is as follows:
Emperor Wen's life, auxiliary wing weight, Xu Chang and Xiao He's commission, Chonghua And Huo Guang's sending. When it comes to dedication, Ifukochi. And emperor Ming will end, Dong liang is a genus, bequeathed to the second lord, the three dynasties, not only bear the entrustment of death, there is no reward for martyrdom. The Son of Heaven is outside, the armored soldiers are raised inside, the tomb soil is not dry, the body of the chaste, it is better if this is so! The best way to do good, to be confused by Si. Isn't it wise to be wise and foolish to be foolish? The heart of the auxiliary, why the former loyal and then the chaos? Therefore, Jin Ming hid his face, shamed and deceived in order to succeed; Shi Le spoke recklessly, laughing and raping back to fix his karma.
The ancients had clouds: "Accumulate good for three years, know less, for evil for one day, smell in the world." "Not really! Although he has hidden himself from that year, he will eventually see his descendants. He also stole the bell to cover his ears, and ignored the people, and he was determined to steal gold, saying that the city was invisible. Therefore, those who know that those who covet the near will be left behind, and those who are drowning in profit will hurt their reputation; if they do not harm themselves and benefit others, they will be a curse to others and bless themselves. It is easy to move rationally, and it is difficult to move when it is back. In the case of the unsuccessful Jinji, forcing Wei Zuo to have Yu? Although the Doug Area is restored, the virtue is born of the heavens, and when the heavens are not revealed, the throne is still obstructed, and it is not possible to compete with wisdom, nor can it be fought, although it is qingliu Houkun, and the body is finally facing the north.
The gist of this record is that during the reign of Emperor Cao Pi of Wei, Sima Yi was reused, received the same heavy trust in Xuchang as Xiao He in the Western Han Dynasty, and received more respect in the court than Huo Guang in the Eastern Han Dynasty. If Sima Yi could do his best to be loyal and righteous, he could be remembered by future generations like Yi Yin and Fu Shuo. When the Wei Ming Emperor Cao Rui was dying, he entrusted the heavy responsibility to Sima Yi.
Sima Yi accepted the edicts of the two emperors and assisted them for three generations, but did not repay them with his body. Later, when he took advantage of tianzi to leave the capital, he raised an army in the city, and the tombs of the former emperors immediately killed each other before they were dry, and the behavior of the loyal ministers should be like this?! It is puzzling to serve the country in this way. Wasn't his strategy of raising troops smart in the east and stupid in the west? If there is the heart of the emperor, why did he be loyal before and then rebel later? Therefore, the Eastern Jin Dynasty Jin Ming Emperor once covered his face and cried, feeling ashamed of his ancestor Sima Yi's success by fraudulent means, and later The Zhao Ming Emperor Shi Le would laugh at Sima Yi for laying the foundation for the imperial cause with treacherous and evil methods.
The ancients said, "Few people know about the good deeds that have accumulated for three years; but if they do a day's bad deeds, they can spread them all over the world." "Isn't that exactly what Sima Yi did?!" Although it was possible to conceal it at that time, it was eventually ridiculed in later generations. It is also like covering your ears to steal a bell, thinking that you can't hear others and you won't hear it; concentrating on stealing money, thinking that no one in the market can see it. Therefore, covetousness in the present will inevitably lose the long term, and indulging in profit will definitely damage reputation. Moving in line with heavenly reason is easy to achieve, and moving against the times will be difficult to succeed.
The Three Kingdoms idiom to be introduced in this article is the "stealing the bell and covering the ear" mentioned by Tang Taizong Li Shimin in the text, which means covering one's ears but stealing the bell, thinking that he cannot hear others and will not hear, comparing himself to deceiving himself. The earliest source of this idiom is the "Death of the Fan Clan, the People Have the Bells" in the "Spring and Autumn of the Lü Dynasty". If you want to go negatively, the bell cannot be negative; if the vertebrae are destroyed, the bell has a sound. Fear that people will hear it and rob themselves of it, and cover their ears. The wicked hear it, but they can also hear it; the wicked hear it of themselves, and they are disobedient. ”
As we all know, the Book of Jin was compiled in the Tang Dynasty. There are a total of twenty-one main authors, including Fang Xuanling and Zhu Suiliang. After the completion of the book, Tang Taizong Li Shimin personally wrote four historical treatises for the four characters in the book, and the historical part of the Xuandi Ji introduced in this article was written by Li Shimin.
In this historical treatise, although Li Shimin affirmed Sima Yi's talents, he denounced Sima Yi's despicable act of stealing Cao Wei's power, thus explaining why Sima Shao, the emperor of the Jin Dynasty, hid his face and wept after hearing the deeds of his distant ancestor Sima Yi. Judging from Sima Yi's life experience and the evaluation of him by posterity, this view is very pertinent and accurate.
