Excrement from giant pandas
A few days ago, the villagers of Peacock Village in Hongyawawushan Town found a large amount of animal feces and bamboo that was eaten in the bamboo forest during their labor in the mountain forest, suspecting that there was a giant panda activity nearby, and then the villagers immediately reported to the Hongya Forest Farm Zhangcun Management and Protection Station.
On April 10, after more than two hours of trekking, the staff of the Zhangcun Management and Protection Station in Hongya Forest Farm went to a bamboo forest where villagers found suspected traces of giant panda activities to search.
Hongya forest farm staff went up the mountain to search
"The bamboo in the bamboo forest is the favorite cold bamboo of the giant panda, and there are fresh bamboo that has just been eaten around." Ma Li, director of the Zhangcun Management and Protection Station of Hongya State-owned Forest Farm, said that many suspected panda feces were also found in the bamboo forest that day. "It's like this, the panda eats bamboo, and the excrement is basically all bamboo chips." It's also surrounded by bamboo flakes. Ma Li said that in terms of the freshness of the feces, it is estimated that it was excreted after the panda activity a few days ago.
In the subsequent search, the staff of the forest farm also found a number of bamboo that was eaten in different places and the excrement discharged by the giant panda, the staff collected fresher feces, sent the picture data to the provincial professional institutions for confirmation, the preliminary identification is a sub-adult giant panda, the next step, the need for giant panda DNA information identification to determine the age, sex and health status of the giant panda and other information.

According to the staff, before the environmental protection inspection work was carried out, the personnel activities of the Wawu Mountain Nature Reserve were more frequent, the giant pandas were active in the core area of the reserve, with the closure of mines and hydropower stations, the relevant departments through long-term extensive publicity and strict management, the local people's awareness of environmental protection was greatly enhanced, the ecological environment was also greatly improved, and the scope of activities of giant pandas began to expand outside the reserve.
"Judging from the traces of giant panda feces and activities that we have newly discovered in Peacock Village this time, it is more than 300 meters below the usual altitude, and it is 4 kilometers away from our protected area and only 3 kilometers away from Zhangcunchang Town." Luo Jun, deputy director of the Natural Resources Management Bureau of Wawushan In Sichuan, said that these characteristics show that the villagers' awareness of protection has increased, the range of giant panda habitat is expanding, and the ecological environment of Hongya is getting better and better.
