The founding general Liu Yongsheng was a native of Shanghang, Fujian. During the period of the agrarian revolutionary war, Liu Yongsheng participated in the anti-"encirclement and suppression" struggles in the Soviet region of western Fujian, and after the Long March of the Central Red Army in 1934, he remained in southwest Fujian to persist in guerrilla warfare for three years; after the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the guerrilla unit of the Red Army was reorganized into the New Fourth Army to go north to resist Japan. Under extremely difficult conditions, the revolutionary struggle was waged, many brilliant achievements and distinctive combat experience were created, and he was known as the "king of guerrillas."
In the later period of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Diehard Kuomintang faction continued to implement a passive anti-Japanese and active anti-communist policy and stepped up the deployment of military offensives against the Communist Party in Fujian, Guangdong, and Gansu. In May 1944, the Kuomintang authorities set up a headquarters in Longyan for the Suijing District of Western Fujian, and transferred Chen Yushan, the commander of the Third Regiment of Security of Fujian Province, to serve as the commander and unify the local armed forces of the Kuomintang in nine counties, including Longyan, Yongding, and Shanghang, in an attempt to eliminate the Communist party organizations and their armed forces in western Fujian. The Third Security Regiment stationed in Longyan, with the cooperation of the local self-defense forces and vigilante groups, carried out a large-scale military "clearance and suppression" operation.
At that time, the headquarters of the Suijing District of Western Fujian dispatched a company (unit) of troops to be stationed in Xiaochi, and carried out "garrison suppression" in Niumianshi, Hejiapo, Huangxiao, and other villages, forcing the masses to build pillboxes and pay for guns. Under the leadership of the Communist Party, the masses of He Jiapo adopted a procrastinating method to deal with the construction of bunkers, so that the bunkers could not be built for a while; as for letting the masses pay for guns, the Communist guerrillas mobilized the masses to resolutely resist, and on the pretext that the broad masses of peasants were very poor, they demanded that the township office issue guns, otherwise there was no need to buy guns to guard. However, the leader of the reactionary militia group in the village and the leader of the Three Youth Leagues colluded with the Xiaochi Township Public Office to exert pressure; after the artillery tower was built, they gathered more than a dozen people to form a vigilante group to guard it; during this period, the CPC Yanbei Work Committee and the guerrillas gave a written warning of their perverse behavior, and the reactionaries not only did not listen, but also handed over the letter to the Xiaochi Township Office; at the same time, they booby-trapped underground party members and arrested the joint households to show their stubborn resistance to the end. He Jiapo's reactionary forces have become a "nail" in the northwestern guerrilla zone of Longyan County.
In mid-December 1944, Wu Chaofang, secretary of the Cpc Yanbei Working Committee, contacted Wang Tao's detachment and demanded that troops be sent to resolutely destroy the He Jiapo Artillery Tower, eliminate reactionaries and vigilante groups, pull out the "nails," change the unfavorable situation in the work of Yanbei, support the broad masses, and avenge the victims.
On December 25, Liu Yongsheng led his troops to the mountains near Hejiapo for cover, and after personally leading people to reconnoiter the terrain and enemy situation in Hejiapo Village, he made combat arrangements: Liu Yongsheng led Qiu Jincai, Zhang Youcai, and 12 other commandos, carrying short guns and grenades, to attack the turret; Chen Zhongping, political commissar of Wang Tao's detachment, and Wu Xianke, deputy commander of the detachment, led the rest of the personnel to lurk on the mountain to guard against the enemy in the direction of Xiaochi. In the second half of the night on the 26th, Liu Yongsheng and they quietly came to the toilet in front of the turret and ambushed them. At dawn, Tuan Ding opened the turret, probed the probe, saw that everything outside the door was as usual, opened the door, one walked into the toilet, Zhang Youcai stopped him and covered his mouth, not allowing him to make a sound; the next two Tuan Ding walked out of the gun tower door and walked towards the toilet, Liu Yongsheng immediately knocked him down. Suddenly, the other commandos slammed into the first floor of the turret. When the enemy upstairs found out, they hurriedly shot and resisted, in a vain attempt to prevent the commandos from ascending the stairs, and there was a short confrontation between the enemy and us. The sound of gunfire will alarm Koike's garrison, which is very unfavorable to the commandos, and measures must be taken immediately to eliminate the enemy as soon as possible to end the battle. In this regard, Liu Yongsheng ordered the commandos to shout to the enemy upstairs, carry out a political offensive, and disintegrate the enemy: "Surrender quickly, surrender your guns and do not kill, we will give preferential treatment to prisoners, if we continue to shoot and resist, we will set fire to the artillery tower." "The enemy saw that the commandos were attacking fiercely, and they were afraid that they would continue to resist and really die in the sea of fire, so more than a dozen enemies stopped shooting and laid down their weapons and surrendered. This attack on the turret captured seven rifles and one shell gun, executed two die-hard reactionaries, educated and released the rest of the prisoners, burned the turret, and ended the battle in just over ten minutes.
The sound of gunfire attacking the Hejiapo Battery alarmed Xiaochi's garrison. The enemy dispatched a squadron of the three security regiments and a township security guard team with a total of more than 200 people to "pursue" the Wang Tao detachment led by Liu Yongsheng.
In order to meet the enemy of Koike' attack, after the team converged, they advanced together in the direction of the mountain dog's hollow, seizing the commanding heights of the lamp center hill and blocking the enemy who came to attack.
Wang Tao's detachment arrived at the designated commanding heights and saw that a large enemy army was hurriedly following from the "Shiji Road" of zhangting ancient post road, and the stubborn army was arrogant and powerful, and the threat was menacing. Detachment leader Liu Yongsheng, relying on the favorable terrain from above and the high morale of the entire squad of fighters, quickly made combat arrangements: The three squads maintained an appropriate distance and swung in an arc, with the short gun squad led by Qiu Jincai in the center and acting as the main strike; the two rifle squads scattered left and right, lured the enemy forward with rifles, and then gathered and annihilated them; and the fighters were required to find a good cover and strike at the enemy at any time because of the favorable situation.
When the enemy's sharp soldiers got closer and closer into the ambush circle, they only listened to Liu Yongsheng's order, and a group of grenades were thrown at the enemy group, and the smoke of gunfire immediately filled the mountain. As soon as the sound of the grenades stopped, Qiu Jincai and the soldiers of the short gun squad pounced on the enemy position and fired fiercely, and suddenly more than half of the enemy's sharp soldier squad was killed and wounded, and the remaining enemies immediately turned around and rolled down the hill. At this time, the subsequent enemy set up machine guns to strafe our positions, and the situation was very critical, so the short gun squad immediately knocked down the enemy machine gunners with strong firepower, and the deputy machine gunners were killed before they could reach the machine guns. At this time, Liu Yongsheng shouted: "Rush! The vast number of commandos pounced on the enemy position like fierce tigers, and the enemy was in chaos, and they all hugged their heads and scurried, and the commando fighters took advantage of the victory to pursue; Liu Yongsheng quickly turned the captured machine guns and fired fiercely at the fleeing enemy, and the enemy army climbed with a rolling belt and retreated down the mountain. The squadron leader of the enemy security team commanded by Yamashita saw that the situation was overwhelmed and fled for his life first, while the rest of the defeated army rushed to flee in the direction of Koike...
In this battle, one machine gun, more than a dozen rifles, and thousands of bullets were captured; none of Wang Tao's detachment suffered casualties and won a complete victory. This battle dealt a heavy blow to the squadron and township security guard unit of the Kuomintang's stubborn provincial security regiment stationed in Xiaochi, eliminated one squad of the enemy, and greatly encouraged the revolutionary fighting spirit of the masses of the people.
