He asked his secretary to find the book on volleyball training written by the Japanese women's volleyball coach Hirobumi Ohmatsu and carefully read it on the desk.
In November 1964, with the support of Premier Zhou Enlai, the National Sports Commission invited Japanese women's volleyball coach Hirobumi Osamatsu to lead the World Women's Volleyball Championship champion Bezuka to visit China.
After the visit, Premier Zhou Enlai greatly appreciated Hirobumi Ohmatsu's strict, difficult, and actual combat-oriented training methods, and put forward the demand for catching up with and surpassing Japan and climbing the world's peaks.
At this point, a wave of sports training has been set off across the country.
In order to develop the volleyball industry, the National Sports Commission decided to build a volleyball training base in the south. After several twists and turns, the selection group was finally selected in Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province.
In order to complete the construction as scheduled and welcome the arrival of the volleyball teams across the country, Yu Kezhao, former commander of the Zhangzhou Military Sub-district and director of the Sports Committee, known as the "Volleyball Commander", transferred soldiers from the troops, organized mass voluntary labor, and in only 23 days, built a "bamboo shed hall" with 6 "triad soil" sites, and renovated 4 nearby venues.
At this point, the winter training team of the women's volleyball team entered Zhangzhou as scheduled, and China's first volleyball training camp began.
For Lang Ping, the head coach of the women's volleyball team, the Zhangzhou training base has a different meaning for her. She first came here at the age of 16, and in the next 45 years, in the strange relationship of her life with volleyball, Zhangzhou is a place that cannot be avoided.
In 1976, the National Sports Commission decided to re-establish the Chinese women's volleyball team, headed by Yuan Weimin, the main player of the Chinese men's volleyball team at that time, as the head coach of the Chinese women's volleyball team.
On the train south to Zhangzhou, 37-year-old Yuan Weimin had a lot of thoughts. At that time, the results of the Chinese women's volleyball team could only rank 14th in the world, which was not satisfactory. He was secretly determined to learn from the strengths of the world's strong teams and create a Chinese-style all-round team that was both highly flexible, capable of attacking and defending, and able to be high and fast.
As soon as he arrived in Zhangzhou, Yuan Weimin began to work intensely. After several days of selection, Yuan Weimin selected 12 athletes such as Yang Xi, Zhang Rongfang, Cao Huiying, Sun Jinfang, Chen Zhaodi, Zhang Jieyun and other athletes from the national women's volleyball team, and the Chinese women's volleyball team was re-established in Zhangzhou.
The average age of the Chinese women's volleyball team is 20 years old, the average height is 1 meter 76, young and energetic. At that time, there were also people who doubted this young team, a group of fledgling novices, can they be relied upon?
At the beginning of his term of office, Yuan Weimin adjusted his training methods. He invited the men's volleyball players to come to the Chinese women's volleyball team to train and introduce some men's team tactics. In the barricade, learn the men's movements, stride and move, and master the air displacement net. This was controversial at the time, but Yuan Weimin had his own deep meaning. He understands that the weakness of the Chinese women's volleyball team lies in strength, and only when it can adapt to the duel with the men's volleyball team and encounter other women's volleyball teams on the field, it will be comfortable.

In the Zhangzhou women's volleyball training base, Yuan Weimin led the team to practice every day at breakfast, until lunch, afternoon nap and then practice, until dinner, and sometimes in the evening. He not only reversed Sun Jinfang's stubborn temper and built her into a main second setter with "sacrifice spirit and team dedication", but also transferred Lang Ping, who was only 18 years old at the time, into the national team, who he thought was parallel, the conditions were good, and he was willing to practice. In 1979, at the second Asian Women's Volleyball Championship held in Hong Kong, the Chinese women's volleyball team defeated the Japanese women's volleyball team and won the Asian championship for the first time.
Lang Ping's slam dunk technique shocked the Japanese media, and the Japanese media, which had not paid attention to Lang Ping before, described Lang Ping as a "new weapon" for the Chinese women's volleyball team and took her as a key research object.
