Today (December 16), a Red Star News reporter interviewed Russian poet and translator PodarevaAnastasia to discuss the theme of this Chengdu International Poetry Week, the international status of Chinese poetry and the poetic beauty of Chengdu. It is understood that Tang Xilan is the international poetry dissemination ambassador of the 2020 Silk Road International Federation of Poets. His works have been published in October, Caotang, Poetry Geography and other journals, and he has written poems in Russian, Chinese and English, and has won several literary awards from 2016 to 2020. Published his personal works collections "Tang Xilan's Poems", "Night Dream" and "Youlan Ningxiang".
Red Star News: How do you understand the theme of this year's Chengdu International Poetry Week, "Li Bai and Du Fu in World Time"? What do you think is the message it sends?
Tang Xilan: Li Bai and Du Fu are two very important figures in the history of Chinese literature. Their work also influenced a large number of young poets and writers. Although Li Bai and Du Fu are good friends, they have different views from the perspective of their outlook on life and world view. As such, it influenced their creative style.
The main message conveyed by "Da Li Du" is to pursue the original heart in the creation, adhere to their own unique style, and make world literature and art have diversified characteristics.
Red Star News: Please talk about the status of Li Bai and Du Fu, two great poets, in international poetry.
Tang Xilan: As foreigners, Li Bai and Du Fu have an important position in the world's oriental literature, and all those who have Chinese words and culture in contact will start their journey of learning from Li Bai's "Quiet Night Thoughts". As early as the 20th century, a group of outstanding Russian sinologists translated some of Li Bai's poems into Russian, but due to the concept of "artistic conception" in Chinese literature, it will be difficult for foreigners to read Li Bai's (and other ancient Chinese poets) works.
Red Star News: Chengdu International Poetry Week has been held for five consecutive years, what do you think the status of the Poetry Week is at home and abroad? What kind of impetus has it been on the influence of Chinese poetry on the poetry stage?
Tang Xilan: This activity will be concerned at home and abroad, in 2019, I participated in the Chengdu International Poetry Week for the first time, when many poets from all over the world came to Chengdu to share their poet road, but in the past two years, because of the impact of the epidemic, many foreign poets did not have the opportunity to participate in the event.
Therefore, I think that with the development of the internet age, the power of poetry can be spread through different media platforms. (Since 2020, I have also been doing self-media, sharing my own works on Douyin, Kuaishou, today's headlines and B stations, explaining the knowledge and ideas related to poetry, with hundreds of thousands of fans, and the account name is: "Russian poet Tang Xilan.") ）
Red Star News: How many times have you come to Chengdu? Chengdu gives you the impression of what it is. At the same time, Chengdu has been an important poetry town since ancient times, what do you think of the poetry atmosphere of the city?
Tang Xilan: I am not the first time in Chengdu, I have participated in the Chengdu International Poetry Week in 2019, and I have also participated in sugar and wine parties with my company to sell authentic Russian vodka. So, right now I'm not just a poet and an amateur artist, I'm also the spokesperson for my company. I hope that in the future, from the direction of culture, art and foreign trade, more Sino-Russian exchanges will be established, so that the friendship between the two countries will last a long time.
Red Star News: What was your journey through Chinese poetry? Where do you think the "beauty" of Chinese poetry comes from?
Tang Xilan: I am exposed to Chinese poetry almost every day, because I write poems in my own Chinese (usually in Russian, English and Chinese). Because I have read an undergraduate major in Chinese language and literature in China, I think Chinese is very suitable for writing poetry, and the Chinese Chinese itself is very "musical", so everyone can not only read poetry, but also sing poetry, which is the characteristic of Chinese poetry.
Red Star News: In this year's Chengdu International Poetry Week, one of the links is to go to the Jinsha Site Museum to learn about the origin of Chengdu city - ancient Shu civilization. What do you know about ancient Shu civilizations such as Sanxingdui and Jinsha, and what kind of urban aesthetic poetic expression do you think the ancient Shu civilization has brought to the city?
Tang Xilan: I know very little about this topic, so during this event, I hope to learn more about it.
