Yang Xiu (杨修), courtesy name Dezu, was a native of present-day Shaanxi, a grandson of Yang Zhen and the son of Yang Biao, who was born into the Yang clan of Hongnong.
Yang Xiuwei was respectful, knowledgeable, and very intelligent, and in his early years he was promoted as a filial piety, Ren Langzhong, and then served as the master bookkeeper of Cao Cao, responsible for internal and external affairs, which was very in line with Cao Cao's wishes. In addition, Yang Xiu was also very literary, and even Cao Cao lamented that he was.
Yang Xiu was quite literary, and many people at that time took the opportunity to seduce him, which showed how well he mixed with Cao Cao in his early years.
Later, Yang Xiu helped Cao Zhi and repeatedly passed Cao Cao's test, which made Cao Zhi more and more arrogant. Yang Xiu was a wise man who understood the truth that arrogant soldiers would be defeated, so he wanted to drift away from Cao Zhi, but Yang Xiu couldn't help himself.
After Cao Cao learned that Cao Zhi had Yang Xiu's shadow behind every full score examination paper, he was indignant about this, and once said in a letter to Yang Biao:
Your shaft, the power of his father, was always absent from my heart, and when we disagreed, he was like a straight man, upright like a rope, and for this, I hated it in my heart.
In the end, Yang Xiu was killed by Cao Cao on the grounds that he had "leaked his words and religion before and after, and handed over to the princes". Before dying, Yang Xiu said:
I insisted on dying too late.
After Yang Xiu's death, Cao Cao was very sad and gave Yang Biao many items to compensate. The Book of Later Han records that cao cao once asked Yang Biao:
I haven't seen you in a few days, how did you lose weight?
Yang Biao said:
Heck, I just hate myself for not having the foresight of Kim Il-seok, and I think of my son.
Yang Xiu felt like a person who was smart and did not save face for the boss.
For example, once, everyone built a gate for Cao Cao to the Xiangguo Mansion, cao Cao went to look at it after the completion, and when he left, he wrote a "living" character on the gate.
Everyone was dazed, not understanding what Boss Cao meant, and Yang Xiu on the side held his cheek and laughed loudly. Everyone already knew that Yang Xiu was very clever, so they asked him
:
Does Yang Dezu have an opinion?
Yang Xiu said unhurriedly:
What is a door with a movable word in it?
Everyone thought about it and suddenly realized that Boss Cao was too broad!
Therefore, after everyone modified, Xiangguomen 2.0 was born, the door was made smaller, cao Cao came again, very satisfied, a inquiry, knowing that it was Yang Xiu's idea, a little unhappy.
Another time, someone gave Cao Cao a box of food, Cao Cao took a bite, and wrote "He" on the box for everyone to see, everyone did not understand what Boss Cao meant, Yang Xiu took a look, and without saying a word, he immediately picked up a piece and sent it into his mouth.
The others were stunned, thinking that the boss's things you dare to eat casually?
Yang Xiu explained while eating:
Boss Cao has agreed to ah, you see, this ligature, if you look closely, is one person and one bite, so, rest assured to eat boldly.
After Cao Cao returned, he found the empty box and asked everyone to know that it was Yang Xiu's idea again.
However, the above two small stories, Xiangzi felt that it was really good to look at as a small story, because it gave me the feeling that Cao Cao's gang was really idle and painful, daring them not to work, not to deal with military priorities, and to play small clever all day.
Of course, such a story can be handed down, but also because the general public is good at guessing the mind, I believe that Cao Cao's personality, doing things will not be so like a woman, but also others to guess their own minds, the door is big and directly said, to give others food also directly said.
This kind of riddle guessing thing belongs to the small mood, such as holding a party as an entertainment activity is common, but in general life, talking and guessing like this, how big can it be, or what can't be said directly? It's not that you can't let some people know.
Moreover, when Xiangzi watched these two stories when he was a child, he really pinched the sweat for Yang Xiu in his heart, what if he guessed wrong? Later, I thought, if Yang Xiu's person is really so smart, will it be manifested in this kind of small cleverness?
For example, the "wide", yes, adding a "living" word to the door is wide, but Boss Cao may have two kinds of thoughts.
1. The door is big, too wide, give me a little smaller.
2. The door is small, give me a little wider.
How do you know what Boss Cao means? Therefore, when I saw this when I was a child, I really pinched a handful of sweat for Yang Xiu!
However, the matter of chicken ribs is indeed recorded in the Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms and the Book of Later Han, saying that after Liu Beijun killed Xiahou Yuan, Cao Cao personally led a large army to compete for Hanzhong. The two sides held each other for a while, it was very embarrassing, Cao Cao was not in, nor was he retreating, and he fell into a tangled heart.
Once, the guards came to ask for the command of the army, and guessed and blurted out:
Chicken.
Everyone didn't understand what "chicken ribs" meant, Yang Xiu said:
Chicken ribs, tasteless food, abandoned pity, I am afraid that Boss Cao is going to withdraw his troops.
The generals then prepared to withdraw their troops, and Cao Cao was greatly angered when he learned of this.
However, in the canonical history, that's all, Cao Cao didn't kill Yang Xiu because of it, that is to say, chicken ribs did have its own thing, but Yang Xiu actually died without chicken ribs.
Later, Cao Cao killed Yang Xiu on the grounds that he was Yuan Shu's grandson, which was at least not the real reason, because Yang Xiu's father Yang Biao was not dead, and it was reasonable to say that Yang Biao was still Yuan Shu's son-in-law.
The biggest possibility of Yang Xiu's death was because he was involved in the battle for the concubine, and Yuan Shao's experience was still vivid and close at hand. If after Cao Cao's death, there was a fight between Cao Pi and Cao Zhi, then it would be a huge loss for the Cao Wei clique. Regardless of the personal will between Cao Pi and Cao Zhi, even if they did not want to fight, in case they were to be put up by the good deeds under their command, it would take financial resources and energy for the country.
For example, if someone accuses Cao Zhi of plotting rebellion, does Cao Pi believe it or not? If you want to intervene in the investigation, is it not an increase in costs for no reason?
In addition, yang xiu has a good relationship with Kong Rong and Mi Heng, for the other two people, Kong Rong was killed, Mi Heng was expelled, and it is also conceivable that Yang Xiu's fate will not be much better.
Cao Cao also felt sorry for Yang Biao before, but in the end did not kill him, moreover, Yang Xiu was different from Kong Rong, Kong Rong was full of door slashes, while Yang Xiu only killed himself, which can also be seen that Cao Cao killed him completely out of self-interest.
As for this kind of self-interest, it is not jealous of Yang Xiu's talent, Cao Cao as a mature politician, this kind of pediatric thing is only done by some small bosses with small bellies and chicken intestines.
