When it comes to the Song Dynasty, people always think of the famous Yang family generals, Hu family generals and Yue family army. They are a family of shoguns who often appear in various novels and dramas, famous generals, loyal to the country, full of loyal martyrs. So, in the real history, what powerful figures did General Yang Jia, General Hu Jia and Yue Jiajun come out of?
First, let's look at The Yang family.
The first generation of famous generals of the Yang family was Yang Ye.
Yang Ye was not originally a Song Dynasty man, but a general of the Northern Han Dynasty. The "History of Liao" records that when Yang Ye was captured, the Liao general Yelü obliquely rebuked him and asked him: "Ru and our country have been victorious for more than thirty years, what is the face of today?" This shows that Yang Ye mainly fought against the Liao state in the Northern Han Dynasty, and his achievements were remarkable, and he was known as "Yang Invincible".
In 979, Emperor Taizong of Song zhao Guangyi attacked the Northern Han Dynasty, and Yang Ye became a Song general along with the Northern Han emperor Liu Jiyuan. Zhao Guangyi considered that Yang Ye had rich experience in fighting the Liao army, so he arranged for him to serve as the governor of Dai Prefecture, and the town was guarded at Yanmen Pass. In 980, the Liao army invaded on a large scale, and Yang Ye took advantage of the characteristics of the familiar terrain to lead an elite army to take a small road around to the north of Yanmen Pass, and together with the main general Pan Mei, attacked the Liao army back and forth, and defeated the Liao army.
Unfortunately, in 986, when Emperor Taizong of Song launched the Yongxi Northern Expedition, Yang Ye, stimulated by the overseer Wang Nong, was forced to go to war, was captured in battle, and died of hunger strike for three days. Yang Ye's second son, Yang Yanyu, was martyred in battle. Yang Ye also had 6 sons, named Yang Yanzhao, Yang Yanpu, Yang Yanxun, Yang Yanggui, Yang Yanggui, and Yang Yanbin. Among them, Yang Yanzhao is the famous Yang Liulang in "Yang Family General".
Yang Yanzhao is the eldest son of Yang Ye, why is he called "Liu Lang"? This is because he threatened the Border Court, defeated the Liao army many times, and was regarded by the Liao army as the liulang star in the sky (general star) under the mortal, so he was called "Yang Liulang".
During the Ming Dynasty, the folk novel "Yang Jia Jiang" appeared, which brilliantly interpreted the story of Yang Ye and Yang Yanzhao's father and son heroically resisting the enemy, and fictionalized Characters such as Mu Guiying and Yang Zongbao. Because the influence of "Yang JiaJun" was too extensive, later when people created other novels, they fabricated many descendants for the Yang family generals. For example, "Water Margin" fabricated the blue-faced beast Yang Zhi, and "The Legend of the Archery Hero" and "The Divine Eagle Hero" fabricated Three generations of Yang Tiexin, Yang Kang, and Yang Guo's grandchildren.
Then come to see the Hu family general.
The first generation of famous generals of the Hu family was Hu Yanzan. Hu Yanzan was the son of the famous Later Zhou general Hu Yanchun, and he was very brave from an early age. When Zhao Kuangyin initiated the Chen Qiao Mutiny to establish the Song Dynasty, Hu Yan favored being a general of the Song Dynasty.
Hu Yanzan participated in many major military operations during his lifetime, such as the conquest of Later Shu and the Battle of The Northern Han Dynasty. Especially in 979, when the Northern Han Dynasty was pacified, Hu Yanzan was a pioneer and braved the rain of arrows to fight bloodily, taking the lead in attacking the city tower. During the battle, Huyanzan once fell off the low wall 4 times, and all of them climbed up to continue fighting. After the war, Emperor Taizong of Song lamented Hu Yanzan's bravery and rewarded him with a golden veil in person.
After the Yongxi Northern Expedition, the Song Dynasty turned to the defense of the Liao state and no longer took the initiative to launch an attack, and Hu Yanzan lost his place as a military general and had to be sent to the local government as a civilian official. Hu Yanzan had no ability to govern, and his official position became smaller and smaller, from the History of the Fuzhou Thorn and the History of the Baozhou Thorn, all the way down to the Kangzhou Regiment to train as an envoy.
Huyanzan had 4 sons, namely Huyan Bixing, Huyan Bixing, Huyan Bichang, Huyan Biqiu, and Huyan Bixian. Performing arts novels such as "Saying Hu Quan Biography" are based on the descendants of Hu Yan Bixian, Hu Yan ShouXin, Hu Yan Shou Yong, Hu Yan Qing and others, and have written a legendary story that can be sung and wept.
In the "Water Margin", there is a double whip of The Undeserved Courage of Wanfu Hu Yanzhuo, who is the descendant of Hu Yanzan's concubine.
Finally, there is the Yue family army.
The first generation of famous generals in the Yue family's army is naturally Yue Fei, a famous anti-Jin general and national hero that we are familiar with.
Yue Fei's story is well known. I think his greatest skill is to turn a group of peasants and unemployed vagrants who have never fought before into a well-disciplined, well-trained field army that "freezes to death without demolishing houses, starves to death without plundering." How powerful is this army? Let's make a comparison. The Liao army was stronger than the Northern Song army, and the Jin army was stronger than the Northern Song army, claiming to be the most powerful army at that time. The Yue family army was the only army that could compete with the Jin army before the advent of the Mongol Iron Horse, and often won victories.
Unfortunately, Yue Fei was not born at the right time, not in the era of Emperor Wu of Han and Emperor Taizong of Tang, but in the era of Emperor Gaozong of Song, so he encountered a sad ending. On January 27, 1142, the 39-year-old Yue Fei was murdered in the prison of Dali Temple.
Yue Fei had 5 sons and 1 daughter, the eldest son Yue Yun, the second son Yue Lei, the third son Yue Lin, the fourth son Yue Zhen, and the fifth son Yue Ting. Yue Yun joined the army at the age of 12, followed his father in the southern conquest of the northern war, and was killed with his father, at the age of 23. After his father was killed, Yue Lin collected his father's deeds for many years. His son Yue Ke compiled and formed the 28 volumes of the "Eguo Jin Tuo Bao Compilation" and the 30 volumes of the "Continuation Compilation", which is one of the important documents for later scholars to study Yue Fei.
During the Qing Dynasty, there was a long heroic legendary novel "The Complete Biography of Yue". The first half of "The Complete Biography of Yue Yue" takes Yue Fei as the protagonist, and Yue Lei as the protagonist in the back, and also creates many protagonists with outstanding personalities, such as Yue Yun, Zhang Xian, Gao Yu, Yang Zaixing, Lu Wenlong, etc., which are written truthfully, vividly and concretely, and have a very great influence on the people.
