However, Bai Suzhen is incarnated by the snake demon, while Xu Xian is a human, and the love between the demons is not tolerated by heaven. Ignoring the sincerity of the two people's feelings, the high monk Fahai suppressed the snake demon Bai Suzhen under the Leifeng Pagoda and forcibly separated them.
Although we know that "The Legend of the White Snake" is fictional, the beautiful love story about Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian is still passed on by word of mouth, as if it had really happened. Because next to the West Lake, there is indeed a Leifeng Pagoda. Whenever people pass by the West Lake and see the Leifeng Pagoda, they will inevitably think of that moving love story. Many people can't help but wonder whether Bai Suzhen is really suppressed under the Leifeng Pagoda?
This problem has to start from the construction of Leifeng Pagoda, the earliest construction of Leifeng Pagoda was in 977 AD, Wu Yueguo's monarch Qian Li, there was a very favored concubine, this concubine after giving birth to an heir, Qian Li was very happy, so he built a stupa called "Imperial Concubine Pagoda" to accumulate merit for his son, as well as prayers.
However, it is a pity that Qian Li was the last monarch of wu yueguo. After the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, it was the Song Taizu Zhao Kuangyin who unified the world. This ancient pagoda has also become less meaningful, because the "Imperial Princess Pagoda" was a landmark building at that time, located on the Leifeng of the West Lake, so the locals began to call it Leifeng Pagoda, and over time it was used.
In 1120 AD, the famous Northern Song general Han Shizhong suppressed the Fang La Rebellion. The Leifeng Pagoda was destroyed during the war and was not renovated until the first year of the Southern Song Dynasty and included in the Ten Views of the West Lake. However, during the Ming Jiajing period, the Haikou flooded and even Hangzhou was looted.
The Ming Dynasty sent troops to suppress the Wukou, and one of the Wukou was beaten and hid in the Leifeng Pagoda, and the Ming officials simply ordered that the Leifeng Pagoda be burned with a fire. Wokou died, and the Leifeng Pagoda was almost destroyed. In the early years of the Republic of China, folklore said that Leifeng Pagoda had the strange function of "warding off evil spirits", so it was often stolen and excavated. On September 25, 1924, the Leifeng Pagoda, which could not withstand the excavation, finally collapsed.
The collapse of this famous ancient pagoda has aroused the attention and discussion of the whole society, but it has not been renovated. It was not until December 26, 2000, that the Leifeng Pagoda was re-included in the renovation project. It was during this phase of the renovation that experts discovered a secret underground palace under the Leifeng Pagoda.
The size of this dungeon is not large, about 0.5 meters long and about 0.5 meters wide. It may be disappointing to everyone, there is no figure of the White Lady in this dungeon. However, two treasures that shocked people at home and abroad were found, one was a 35.6 cm high sterling silver gilded pagoda, and the other was a gilded bronze Buddha statue with a height of 68 cm.
Both of these treasures are extremely precious, presumably used by the town tower. Afraid of being stolen and excavated, he buried himself in the dungeon. I didn't expect it to reappear after a thousand years. One of the most amazing is the 35.6 cm high sterling silver gilded pagoda, in which there is also a small gold coffin containing the relics enshrined by the qianli, which is extremely precious. Although the White Lady has not been found, these precious cultural relics have been of great help to our country in understanding the history of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms
