This Janissary army adopted modern Western weapons and equipment, and its soldiers were selected from the battalions of the original Janissaries in the Eight Banners, with a total of 1 division and two brigades, totaling 12,000 people, led by Puyi's uncle Zaitao.
At that time, when Yuan Shikai forced Puyi to abdicate, the Janissaries were still there, and indeed they prevented this matter, but in the end they did not succeed. At that time, the commander of the Janissaries was no longer Zaitao, but Feng Guozhang, yes, yuan shikai's absolute cronies.
Not long after the Wuchang uprising, Yuan Shikai re-emerged from the mountains, and he replaced the regent Zaifeng and took over all the power of the Qing Dynasty. Yuan Shikai appointed his close confidant Feng Guozhang as president of the Janissaries.

Moreover, Feng Guozhang had previously been the general office of the Army Noble School, and was recently awarded the title of Baron of the Second Class at the Battle of Hanyang.
After Yuan Shikai negotiated peace with the revolutionaries, he began to persecute Puyi and Empress Longyu, but was opposed by the Janissaries, so that the terms of the peace negotiations could not be published for a long time. At this critical moment, Feng Guozhang stood up, gathered all the officers and soldiers, and announced the preferential conditions for the emperor's abdication, and the number of salaries for the Janissaries remained unchanged. At the same time, Feng Guozhang also guaranteed the thoughtfulness of the two palaces and the future treatment of the Janissaries with his life.
In this way, the Storm of the Janissaries that hindered the abdication of the Qing Emperor subsided, and it can be said that Feng Guozhang still had merit for the abdication of the Qing Emperor.
Of course, the most fundamental reason is that the Janissaries are simply not enough to change anything. It should be known that the number of Janissaries is not large, and if there is a real fight, it is not at all the opponent of the Beiyang Army, and it is only a matter of time before it is destroyed. Besides, most of the Janissaries are still flag bearers, and their combat effectiveness is conceivable, and it is impossible to expect the Janissaries to change anything.
