On January 27, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) revoked China Unicom (Americas) Operations Co., Ltd.'s authorization to provide interstate and international communications services in the United States on the grounds of "threatening U.S. national security," and required China Unicom to cease any mobile services, leased lines, Internet access, and cloud services in the United States within 60 days of the order. In response to this incident, on February 3, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a relevant statement.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology pointed out that China Unicom Americas has been operating in the United States for 20 years, and has been complying with US laws, regulations and regulatory requirements, and providing quality services for many users in the United States in accordance with the principle of commercialization. The US FCC's revocation of its 214 license without listing specific violations is an unreasonable crackdown on Chinese enterprises by further generalizing national security and abusing national power, seriously undermining the US business environment and harming the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and global consumers, including US users.
The US side should withdraw its unfair decision on Chinese enterprises, stop the erroneous practice of generalizing the concept of national security and politicizing economic issues, and create a fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese enterprises to invest and develop in the United States.
