Yu Hong, born in 1966, entered the Attached Middle School of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1980, entered the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1988, and graduated from the Master's Degree Of Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1995. He currently teaches in the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
In the field of contemporary Chinese painting, Yu Hong is an artist who attaches great importance to the path of personal painting and constantly reflects on the existing painting paradigm, and his works have strong humanistic feelings, which constitute multiple narrative relationships with the current reality. For example, based on the development path of contemporary painting, we can see the rupture and advancement within the figurative painting system of the college since the 1990s, that is, how the realistic painting of the college has changed in terms of imagery, rhetoric, and narrative methods. If its works are placed in the perspective of women's art, they can also reflect the characteristics of Chinese women's art in terms of theme selection, discourse expression, and cultural stance since the mid-1990s. In terms of the theme and cultural appeal of her works, her paintings have dabbled in many topics such as body, identity, gender, and marginalized social class.

In these works of Yu Hong, we can first see a human situation that is closely related to real life, which is expressed through the figurative forms in her works, including the sky, mountains, earth, water flow and creatures in her picture space that are related to reality. But what she wants to express is the dislocation relationship between individual events and situations, which is magnified by her strong visual modeling, so that the surreal subjective consciousness in her work exceeds the objective reality.

In her paintings, there is always an unconventional space with a considerable fantasy and magic, which is an imaginary visualization and metaphysical embodiment. The classic school of Surrealism with which we are familiar has constructed a variety of bizarre scenes, and although Surrealism as a modern art genre has become a history, the surreal experience, especially the experience of entering from a personal perspective, will continue to continue. Yu Hong does exactly this, but what she experiences and feels is a contemporary world, so her expression is no longer as a traditional surreal expression, but creates a contemporary version of the surreal expression.

In this dream-like narrative, her consciousness is intertwined with the realistic attributes of this era, and she also transforms this deep consciousness into a visual projection, constructing various metaphors and symbols in the picture. In this sense, Yu Hong's "dream" is not entirely a dream belonging to an individual, but more of a "dream-like" narrative to express feelings about reality. The extremely exaggerated and dynamic figures in her works show an extreme experience of contemporary people, the stretching of the body and the incredible demeanor transform the material body shape of man into a psychological real shape, indicating that man is not only a biological person, but also a social person, in various social situations, the spirit of all things and the spirit of all things become one, and man and the world in which he lives also forms a new relationship.
