Visegrád 24 today (29th) morning update:
Finnish President Sholininistö has now confirmed that Turkey has relinquished its veto over Sweden and Finland's membership in NATO.
Turkey will formally support accession at the NATO summit in Madrid this week, he wrote. And NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Turkey had agreed to support Finland and Sweden's application to join NATO.
Obviously, the demands of the Turkish side must have been met by the Finnish and Swedish sides, otherwise it is impossible for a country like Turkey, which is first in interests, to give up the rights in its hands easily. Turkey has been asking Finland and Sweden to take a stand on support for terrorism within Turkey, particularly in relation to the 2016 Turkish military coup and their support for the PKK in Turkey.
But these are all superficial excuses, and Turkey's real goal is still to blackmail the EU and NATO and make them make some basic concessions, the best way is to allow Turkey to join the EU. As for how NATO persuaded Turkey, I am afraid that the most likely thing is to agree to some of Turkey's conditions. It is likely that Turkey will be allowed to join the EU within a certain period of time, otherwise Turkey will not easily let go.
