On December 14th, ZEEKR released the Golden Brick Battery, which is self-developed by ZEEKR Automobile from the battery cell to the battery pack, which is the first mass-produced ultra-fast charging lithium iron phosphate battery in the market, which can increase the range of 500+ kilometers in 15 minutes.

The gold brick battery will be equipped for the first time on ZEEKR 007, and ZEEKR 007 will be officially launched on December 27.

Innovative cell structure

In terms of battery cells, the Golden Brick battery uses square thin cells, which are similar in shape to BYD's blade batteries. However, the gold brick battery adopts a laminated multi-tab structure design, which can make the heat distribution of the cell more uniform and more efficient temperature control ability. In addition, the gold brick battery also adopts a double rivet pole current diversion design, and the overcurrent capacity of the cell is increased by 100%.

The positive electrode of the gold brick battery is made of nano-scale lithium iron phosphate particle composite conductive agent, the negative electrode is made of low-enthalpy graphite anode material, and the multi-gradient electrode sheet design is adopted, and the surface is equipped with a low-impedance SEI film. A three-layer composite porous membrane is used between the positive and negative electrodes, with an ultra-fast dissociation electrolyte. It is a pity that ZEEKR did not announce the single energy density of the brick battery cell.

In addition, the appearance of the battery cell of the gold brick battery is wrapped with an exclusive gold high-voltage resistant insulating film, which is also the origin of the name of the gold brick battery. Compared with the blue insulating film of other batteries, the golden film of the gold brick battery has stronger performance, which can withstand 4000V DC high voltage, and the high voltage resistance capacity has been increased by 27%.

Dig deep into the utilization rate of battery pack space

However, like other lithium iron phosphate batteries, it is impossible to surpass ternary lithium batteries in terms of cell energy density, so ZEEKR chooses to make a breakthrough in the volume utilization rate of the battery pack to increase the energy density of the whole pack.

ZEEKR Gold Brick Battery further increases the space utilization of the battery pack by using a compact sandwich structure with the ceiling removed, aviation-grade ultra-thin thermal barrier material to make the partition between the cells thinner, and an integrated liquid-cooled tray. The battery pack of the gold brick battery also reduces the length of the sampling wiring harness by 157 meters and the number of core components by 35%, so that the ZEEKR gold brick battery has a volume utilization rate of 83.7%, surpassing the 4680 battery and ternary lithium battery.

800V charging network construction

In addition to the release of the gold brick battery, ZEEKR also announced its own 800V charging network construction plan.

In June 2022, ZEEKR released a 600kW fully liquid-cooled charging pile - Extreme Charging Pile V2, and at the ZEEKR Evolution Day in September 2023, it released the Extreme Charging Pile V3, with a single gun charging power of 800kW, a maximum output voltage of 1000V, and a maximum output current of 800A.

Friends who drive 800V models should have tried this situation, charging at the overcharging pile outside, if there are other vehicles charging, the supercharging pile will be diverted, unable to reach the highest charging power, resulting in a decrease in vehicle charging speed.

The ZEEKR charging station has innovated in this regard and developed an intelligent power sharing technology, which can freely distribute the charging power of each charging pile.

It is expected that a total of 1,000 pole charging stations will be built in 2024 and more than 10,000 pole charging piles will be built in 2026. At the same time, ZEEKR also released the "1515 Convenient Electricity" plan, that is, 15 minutes to find a charging pile and 15 minutes to charge, which is expected to cover 76% of ZEEKR owners in 2024, 90% in 2025, and 95% in 2026.

In addition, ZEEKR has also integrated all the operation processes of smart charging into the vehicle system, which can operate the charging parking space to lower the ground lock through voice, and the system will also carry out intelligent battery preheating. This kind of mobile phone charging operation greatly reduces the probability of the driver using the mobile phone during the driving process, and improves the driving safety.

At the same time, ZEEKR also released a 20kW DC home charging pile, which can fully charge a large battery of 140kWh overnight, and is suitable for all models of ZEEKR, which can be charged through mobile phone/car machine operation.

For the 100kWh large battery electric vehicle now, it is true that a high-power home charging pile is needed to ensure that the vehicle can be fully charged overnight, but the price of this high-power home charging pile is not cheap, such as the 20kW DC home charging pile of Extreme Krypton requires 13,800 yuan.
