Recommended scenic routes
- By shuttle bus: Depart from Moxi Ancient Town (1580 meters above sea level) and go directly to Ganhe Dam (3030 meters above sea level), about 1 hour by car.
- By Cableway: From the Wadi Dam to Camp 4 (3,500 meters above sea level), this is the Gongga Snow Mountain Observatory, where you can cross the glacier canyon and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the main peak of Gonggar and the forest glacier.
- Hiking adventure: Return to the wadi dam from the lower station of the ropeway, follow the trail to Camp 3, and then take the shuttle bus back to Caohaizi in Camp 2. This section of the road is mainly through primeval forests, with the most beautiful scenery in the summer, and the opportunity to meet baby squirrels.
- By battery car: Go to the vein of Gonggar (Chengmun Cave) to get close to the glacier and feel the magnificence and mystery of the glacier.

By car
- From Chengdu, it takes about 4 hours to drive to Hailuogou Scenic Area.
Bus
- New South Gate Bus Station: From the new South Gate Bus Station, there is a direct bus to Hailuogou, and the ticket price is 132 yuan / person.
- Chengdu East Railway Station Bus Station: From Chengdu East Railway Station Bus Station, the shuttle bus to Moxi Town is 130 yuan/person. Moxi Ancient Town is one of the main entrances of Hailuogou Scenic Area.

Camp One
- Altitude: 1940 m
- Highlights: It has rich vegetation such as Lianxiang tree and Kangding magnolia, which is a good place to see wildlife.
- The nearby 56°C hot spring is one of the five unique hot springs in Hailuogou, and you can feel the comfort and comfort of the hot springs up close.
- From here, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the No. 2 glacier from a distance.
- It is equivalent to the gate of the scenic spot, and it is the farthest place that social vehicles can drive.
Camp II
- Altitude: 2,660 meters
- Highlights: This is the world of hot springs, with a glacier hot spring of 92.5°C, which is like a wooden house in a Narnia fairytale.
- Large and small hot spring pools are built in the primeval forest of snow and ice, so you can enjoy the unique experience of soaking in the snow even in winter.
- There are also rare plants such as yew trees and birches, as well as wild animals such as takin and macaques.
No. 3 Mochi
- Altitude: 2980 meters
- Highlights: As a real starting point for glacier excursions, Camp 3 is a great location to enjoy the sunshine of the Golden Mountain.
- There is abundant vegetation such as the large-leaved rhododendron, as well as wildlife such as Tibetan macaques.
- You can walk through the primeval forest and feel the magic and beauty of nature.
Camp Four
- Altitude: 3600 meters
- Highlights: Camp No. 4 is the highest point of the scenic area, and it is also the best place to see the main peak of Gongga Mountain and the whole view of the Great Ice Waterfall.
- The ropeway (about 18 minutes each way) offers a magnificent view of the entire glacier and makes you feel like you are in a world of ice and snow.
- The essence of the scenic spot is concentrated here, there are snow-capped snow-capped mountains and glaciers, and the observation deck can see Gongga snow-capped mountains.
- There are also highland plants such as shrubs and snow lotus, which bring a different kind of visual enjoyment to tourists.
- There are supply points, infirmaries, police offices.
- Camp 4 is the only place in the entire scenic area where you can see the Great Glacier Waterfall and Gonggar.
5. Play suggestions
Pass through the No. 1 camp and No. 2 camp, pass through the primeval forest, enjoy the scenery of the primeval forest in the river valley along the way, and feel the meteorological changes of "one mountain to view the four seasons and ten miles of different days".
After arriving at Camp 3, you can get off at the Camp 3 sightseeing bus parking lot and walk along the sightseeing road, or you can take a battery car tour, which normally takes about 1.5 hours one way to walk through the primeval forest and visit the glacial rainforest promenade.
Enjoy the scenery of Chengmen Cave, 10,000-year-old glacier, thousand-year-old trees, glacier wetland, Gongga Divine Spring, Pearl Beach, Rhododendron King and other landscapes, the scenery is very beautiful.
You can also continue to take the scenic sightseeing bus, get off at the Ganhe Dam parking lot at the terminal of the sightseeing bus, and take the scenic cableway to the No. 4 camp to see the glacier.
Take the ropeway to get a bird's-eye view of the perfect combination of glacier and forest, and finally arrive at the highest altitude of the trip - Camp 4, on a sunny day, you can watch the magnificent ice waterfall and the main peak of Gongga Mountain, the "King of Shu Mountain", with an altitude of 7556 meters.
After taking the ropeway to the observation deck, you can also descend to the bottom of the glacier to see the glacier up close, and enjoy the ice wonders such as ice caves, ice curtains, ice waterfalls, ice platform ladders, and Dinghai Shen Needle.
Hailuogou has the reputation of "natural oxygen bar", you can breathe the vitamins in the air (negative oxygen ion content is 100,000-1 million per cubic centimeter), and the scenery is very beautiful (tourists decide the distance of the tour according to their own physical condition, physical strength and time).
Remember to walk in a group, remember to follow the prescribed walking trails in the scenic area, do not cross the safety cordon, and pay attention to safety.
6. Glacier three steps
Level 1: Grain snow basin
Located at an altitude of 6750-4800m, it is the source and formation area of the Hailuogou Glacier. The snow basin covers an area of 11.5 km², accounting for about 70% of the glacier's total area.
The thickness of the ice is between 200-300m, which provides a solid foundation for the stable development of the glacier.
The area has steep slopes, with an average slope between 40° and 60°, so avalanches are frequent, adding more dynamic elements to the formation of glaciers.
Level 2: Great Ice Falls
At an altitude of 4,800-3,720m, it is the most striking part of the Hailuogou Glacier. With a width of about 0.5-1.2km and a staggering height of 1080m, the Great Icefall is the tallest waterfall in the mainland.
Crystal glaciers cascade down from the high valleys, and the holy and majestic snow-capped mountains form a unique landscape.
Standing on the viewing platform under the Great Ice Waterfall, it is like being in a mythical crystal palace, making people feel the magic and magnificence of nature.
Level 3: Ice tongue
Located at an altitude of 3720-2850m, it is an extension of the glacier flow to lower altitudes. When a glacier flows through a large icefall, the glacier may break off and create an ice avalanche due to pressure and gravity.
The material from these ice avalanches mixes with avalanche snow higher up to form new ice bodies, which then continue to flow to lower elevations. The glacier tongue is about 3.9 km long and 0.4-0.7 km wide, and the ice thickness is between 100-130 m.
Although the glacier tongue section is not as spectacular as the Great Icefall, its unique morphology and flowing glaciers also attract the attention of visitors.
7. Scenic changes
The road was widened from 6.5 metres to 7.5 metres.
New "4 tunnels and 2 bridges" were built to bypass geological disaster points.
Build 23 viewing platforms such as Gonggar Retrospective, Gonggar Heart, and Jinyin Peak Light.
Nine major ecological and cultural routes, including glacier trails, climbing trails, and rainforest trails, will be constructed, and new check-in locations such as Gonggar's Gate and Gonggar's Eye will be built.
8. Accommodation
Accommodation in the scenic area
Jinshan Photography Hotel: Located in Camp No. 3, it is the closest and only hotel in the scenic area to Gongga Mountain. The hotel has a room with a view of the dense forest, where you can enjoy the magnificent view of the Rizhao Golden Mountain in the morning.
The hotel is well-equipped and serviced, with underfloor heating, electric mattresses and electric baseboard heating to ensure you feel at home even in the colder months.
The hotel also has an observation deck, which is a great location to take photos of the beautiful scenery of Jinshan. The price is 500+, and the staff service is very good.
Accommodation outside the scenic area
Moxi Town: A small town located near the gate of Hailuogou Scenic Area, with a variety of accommodation options and moderate prices.
Life is convenient here, with shopping, dining and everything you need. When the weather is nice, you can see the snow-capped mountains from the town.

- The altitude in the scenic area is high, bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hats and other sunscreen supplies, as well as warm clothes, anti-anti-anti-anti-anti-
- If there is a high risk of reaction, you can prepare a glucose drink and a portable oxygen cylinder.
- If you need to soak in the hot springs, prepare a swimsuit. The time of bathing in the hot spring is controlled to 1-2 hours, and you can rest and rehydrate in the middle of the bath. When soaking in hot springs, avoid burns caused by high water temperature.
- Wear comfortable shoes for hiking.

- The ancient town of Moxi is still under maintenance, so there is no need to stay too much, mainly as a transit for accommodation.

- There is often rain and fog in the scenic area, so pay attention to safety when walking.
- The peak season of the scenic spot is from April to October, so it is recommended to book tickets and accommodation in advance.
- The off-season is from November to March, and the price is lower but you need to pay attention to keeping warm.
