In the early morning of June 24, the small yellow flowers in the gourd seed melon field in Shaanxi Gong Village, Midong District had just unfolded their petals, and thousands of hard-working little bees had already disappeared into the flowers to start their "sweet career".
"The bees collect honey and pollinate us at the same time, which increases the yield and increases the income of the farmers." Leng Liuhua, a gourd seed melon grower, said that bees are good helpers for growers, bees collect pollination from male flowers, and then fly to female flowers, and the fruits can grow big and grow well with the pollination process.
"Especially for a plant like gourd seed melon, if you only rely on a little pollen when the small insects in the ground are flying around, the pollination effect is very limited, and the yield is low. After bee pollination, the fruit produces more seeds, and the yield goes up. Leng Liuhua said that in order to do enough pollination work for more than 1,000 acres of land, he rented 200 boxes of bees from beekeepers for pollination in early June, when the fields bloomed sporadically.
"The bees decide how long they want to collect honey according to the weather temperature, with morning and evening being the main working hours. However, the bees rented this time are all black-headed bees, which are not afraid of heat and work for a long time, and now it seems that the overall growth in the field is not bad. Leng Liuhua smiled as he looked at the bees flying around in the ground.
