In his later years, Cheng Yanqiu devoted himself to teaching and summarizing his experience in stage art. In 1949, as a specially invited representative, he participated in the first session of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, in 1950 he was elected as a deputy to the National People's Congress, a member of the presidium of the Council of the Chinese Opera Association, in 1953 he served as the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Drama, and in 1957 he was introduced by Premier Zhou Enlai to join the Communist Party of China. Cheng Yanqiu dedicated his life to the cause of Peking Opera art, and his outstanding achievements are one of the peaks reached by Peking Opera art in the past 100 years, and he has had a profound and significant impact not only on the role of Peking Opera but also on the development of Peking Opera and opera.
