The Sydney Morning Herald reported on July 1 that with a $21.16 billion metro line in central Sydney set to open in early August, five bus lines will be cancelled and 11 lines will be adjusted. At the same time, more than 20 bus routes will increase the number of buses on weekdays or weekends to make it easier for people to use the new subway.

According to the report, most of the changes are concentrated in Sydney's North and North West, and will take effect on the day the Chatswood to Sydenham metro opens. The new metro line, which will be carried by driverless trains, is expected to be officially operational on a weekend in early August, but the exact date will still depend on the results of the trial run and the approval of safety regulators.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for August 3 or 10, with the first train departing from either end of Sydenham or Tallawong at 4am the next day and officially opening to passengers.

In 2019, when the first phase of the Rouse Hill to Chatswood MRT line opened, similar changes were made to the bus line in Sydney's North West.

Bus 115 will run as a loop service between Chatswood and North Sydney and will no longer run to the CBD. Bus 252 between Gladesville and the CBD will terminate at North Sydney instead of King Street Wharf. Bus 261 between Lane Cove and the CBD also terminates at North Sydney instead of King Street Wharf. At the same time, there will be an increase in the frequency of buses 261, 267, 546, 549, 630, 610X, 715, 740, 742, 745, 747, 748 and 751, which will make it easier for commuters to catch the new metro.

The new 516 bus will run between Top Ryde, North Ryde and Chatswood, and the new 119 bus will run between Gore Hill and North Sydney during peak hours on weekdays.

Transport Minister Jo Haylen said the changes to bus services are aimed at ensuring faster and more frequent travel for commuters and connecting the new metro line to the rest of the public transport network.

"Announcing the bus route changes now will help commuters have enough time to plan their trips and take advantage of the new metro line from the day it opens," she said. ”

Transport NSW's Howard Collins said the new MRT line will open in August, along with the Parramatta Light Rail Phase 1, which will change the way people travel.

"We hope that the bus service will make it easier for passengers to use the new metro and shorten travel times."
