Yesterday (June 29), a tour bus full of Chinese tourists overturned in Genting Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia, killing two people and injuring many others.

According to Malaysian media reports, the bus carried a total of 21 people, except for three local male passengers, the remaining 18 were Chinese tourists, including seven women and 11 men.

The identities of two Chinese men have been confirmed as a result of the accident and their bodies are currently undergoing an autopsy at Bentong Hospital to confirm the cause of death.

Several others were injured and others have been taken to local hospitals for treatment, while eight Chinese nationals are currently being treated at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital in stable condition.

The three Malaysians who were injured in the accident, including the bus driver, a bus helper and a tour bus driver, also appealed to witnesses to report the accident to the police to assist in the investigation of the traffic accident.

The crash occurred at around 10am yesterday morning and took place 16.5 kilometres on the way down the hill to Kuala Lumpur in Genting Highlands. The tour bus lost control while making a turn on the way down the mountain, crashed into the demarcation embankment in the middle of the road and overturned.

Police have launched an investigation into the 32-year-old driver, who has a total of 27 unpaid traffic tickets, including driving without a license, and has been arrested for driving offences and has applied for a four-day extension of detention for investigation.

According to Sin Chew, some travelers said that they were participating in a 6-day tour group in Malaysia and also went to Singapore to play, and originally returned to Yunnan on June 30, but they did not expect an accident. Not long after they departed from their hotel in Genting Mid-Levels, they had an accident and the bus driver was driving too fast.

Some passengers also reported that they changed buses three times in six days and five nights, because the tour buses had problems such as no air-conditioning and many sounds, indicating that the buses lacked proper maintenance.

Malaysia's Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Teo Keng Shin, and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, arrived at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital at 8 a.m. this morning (June 30) to express their condolences to the injured in the Genting downhill tour bus capsizing case, and said at a press conference, "We want to ask what happened in the Land Transport Bureau." ”

Malaysia's Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture noted that the Ministry of Transport and the Land Transport Department will hold a special meeting on July 2 to discuss the safety of tour buses.
