The Inner Harbour (South) stormwater pumping station and sewerage works are one of the major disaster prevention projects of the HKSAR Government, which aims to alleviate the long-standing flooding problem in the Inner Harbour due to the low-lying terrain.
In 2022, the HKSAR Government commenced the renovation works of the drainage system in Inner Harbour South by constructing a stormwater pumping station, a sewage pumping station, a stormwater tank culvert, a stormwater and sewerage in the vicinity of Riverside New Street, Billy Ramaki Street and Huochuan Tau Street, which will be carried out in three phases.
The first phase of the project, which mainly consists of the construction of a large-scale stormwater pumping station and a structural platform for sewage treatment facilities, commenced in November 2022 and was completed in July 2024.

Considering the design standard of the 50-year recurrence cycle, combined with the stormwater culvert and sewer systems constructed in Phases 2 and 3, the stormwater in the Inner Harbour South area will be collected through the stormwater tank culvert and then pumped up and discharged into the sea through the stormwater pumping station, which will help alleviate the flooding problem in the Inner Harbour South.

Phases 2 and 3 are progressing in an orderly manner as planned, with continued construction of sewage pumping stations, stormwater culverts, sewers and roads at Riverside New Street, Billy Ramaki Street and Huochuan Tau Street.
The works are carried out in sections and partially enclosed to ensure vehicular traffic. In addition, the contractor is also required to regularly inspect the drainage system in the area affected by the construction and increase the pumping facilities to reduce flooding caused by the rainy season during the construction period.

The two works are expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024 and the second quarter of 2025 respectively. The PWB has urged the contractor and the supervisor to pay attention to the condition of the site at all times to ensure the safety of the construction and its surroundings and complete the construction on time and with good quality
