The Great Wall is the largest existing cultural heritage in mainland China, the spiritual totem of the Chinese nation, and a major miracle of human civilization. In 1984, Deng Xiaoping, Xi Zhongxun and other leading comrades wrote an inscription for the "Love My China, Build My Great Wall" activity, which inspired the enthusiasm of Chinese sons and daughters at home and abroad to protect the Great Wall. In order to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the "Love My China, Build My Great Wall" activity, and continue to promote, excavate and expand the history and culture of the Great Wall, sponsored by the Qinhuangdao Municipal Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Film and Television, Qinhuangdao Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and undertaken by the Qinhuangdao Photographers Association, Qinhuangdao Qigong Art Museum, Qinhuangdao Ancient Architecture Society, and Beidaihe Qinxinggong Ruins Museum, Wang Jinqinshan Customs Ancient City Residential Photography Exhibition will be opened soon.

Shanhaiguan is the most famous pass in the east of the Great Wall in the Ming Dynasty. Since the 14th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1381), after the construction of the customs and the establishment of the guard, the Shanhaiguan city built because of the customs has gradually developed into the hub of Northeast China and North China, and is an important town for the frontier, garrison, commerce, transportation, politics and culture in history. In 2001, it was listed as a national historical and cultural city. The residential buildings of Guancheng are an important part of the history and culture of the ancient city, and also enrich the content of the history and culture of the Great Wall. It shows the architectural and artistic achievements of Guancheng from many aspects, highlighting the regional characteristics of traditional residential buildings and the folk culture passed down from generation to generation. It is rare that the traditional courtyard house building of this scale is still relatively intact to this day.
Wang Jinqin has long been concerned about the image shooting of vernacular architecture, and since 2014, he has been shooting the residential buildings of the ancient city of Shanhaiguan one after another, and has collected a large number of video materials. After careful selection, some of his works will be displayed in a centralized manner, hoping that through the presentation of his works, we can not only protect the Great Wall, but also cherish the villages and traditional residential buildings along its route, and scientifically protect and utilize them.
