In order to spread peace and develop friendship between China and Mozambique, a Type 071 amphibious ship of the Chinese Navy has recently arrived in Mozambique waters, and will soon conduct a joint exercise codenamed "Peace and Unity-2024" with Mozambique. The rare arrival of our navy in Mozambique, located in East Africa, undoubtedly reflects that our navy's ocean-going capability has been greatly enhanced, and also reflects the traditional friendship and high degree of mutual trust between our side and Mozambique. It is worth noting that although the Chinese side only dispatched one ship in this joint exercise between China and Mozambique, the tonnage of the ship has exceeded the total tonnage of the entire Mozambican Navy.
Mozambique is a coastal country located in southeast Africa, with a total area of nearly 800,000 square kilometers and a population of more than 30 million people. However, although the Mozambican Navy has developed rapidly in recent years, it is still a coastal defense navy with mainly small ships.
The largest ship of the Mozambican Navy is the Spain patrol boat Pebane, which was delivered by Spain in 2013 and is a small patrol boat with a length of about 30 meters, which is one of the main ships in active service with the Mozambican Navy.
In addition to the larger patrol boat, the remaining ships of the Mozambican Navy are basically speedboats. For example, the 5-ton speedboat Namakulla-class port patrol boat, HSI 32-class speedboat, etc., which are mainly used for personnel transportation and patrol in the port.
In addition to these small speedboats, the most notable thing for the Mozambican Navy is its most advanced and largest France-made trimaran patrol boat, the Seahawk 43-class patrol boat, which is a new type of ship in service with the Mozambican Navy in recent years, its trimaran design allows it to easily cope with the wind and waves in the Mozambique Channel, and it is worth noting that the boat is also capable of carrying carrier-based aircraft, a France-made drone. Such a ship can be said to be very eye-catching in the navies of neighboring countries.
To sum up, the Mozambican Navy is still in a stage of development, and there are no too large surface ships, and perhaps the arrival of a 20,000-ton Chinese ship in Mozambique for joint exercises can open a new chapter in naval cooperation between China and Mozambique.
