Xie Yu is a native of Xuzhou, born in a military family, he has been fond of art since he was a child, and has been engaged in art and design related work since graduation. In 2000, Xie Yu worked as a designer of jade carving artwork in a jade carving studio in Xiangwang Lane, Gusu District, Suzhou City. This chance gave him a close connection with jade carving. After returning to Xuzhou, Xie Yu learned jade carving skills from a local master, Zhou Guangcheng, and in 2020, he entered the tutelage of Gu Yongjun, a master of Chinese arts and crafts and a master of jade altars, to continue his studies and further study of jade carving skills. In the same year, he was also named the representative inheritor of Xuzhou jade carving (Gulou jade carving), an intangible cultural heritage of Gulou District, Xuzhou City.

At present, a total of 6 apprentices have learned jade carving skills from him. He said that in the future, he hopes to use jade as a medium to promote the culture of the Han Dynasty and the Han Dynasty.
