Committed to marine protection 80m catamaran concept design

The non-profit organization Circular Waves has launched a new 80-meter catamaran concept as a research platform for marine conservation. The concept was developed by designer J. David Weiss in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich.

The catamaran is divided into two collection areas, with a focus on using "shovels" between the hulls to collect "residues" such as plastics, fishing nets and brown algae that pollute beaches and drinking water. It is then processed on board and converted into biofuel in the laboratory to power the yacht's electricity and hydrogen systems. Brown algae will also be processed into hydrogen on land for "eco-friendly" propulsion and water production.

The hull and superstructure are made of green carbon biomass

The concept is designed with vertical wind turbines and floatable, rolling solar cells to support the production of clean energy. The onboard lab will develop a breeding plan for corals and reefs and create a database documenting marine pollution and species impacts, and AI will assist with data collection and processing.

There are drones and helicopters on the deck of the bridge, and there is also an "activity area" next to it for holding talks and discussions on board. Other highlights include a media room with a TV and webcam, as well as a vertical "green plantation" for further autonomy while cruising.

The 28-metre CW02 was also released as a proof of concept and is designed to operate closer to shore

"We are working with scientists to restore endangered habitats, recreate seagrass meadows and coral reefs, and improve the safety of shipping traffic through AI-powered seabed surveying projects," said founder Pascal Gerdsmeier. ”。“ [The concept] combines economic, technological, environmental sustainability and innovation to create a forward-thinking concept for the yachting industry. ”

The catamaran will also be equipped with rescue and supply boats, submarines and diver equipment. Key figures include a beam of 38 meters and a draft of 2.4 meters. More details will be announced at this year's Monaco Yacht Show.
