Liu Xun (c. 467 – 539) was a Native of Dongguan during the Southern and Northern Dynasties. Critic of literary theory. In his early years, he was eager to learn, determined not to marry, and studied the scriptures of the Monks of The Dinglin Temple and proofread the Buddhist scriptures in the temple. During the reign of Emperor Wu of Liang, he served as the Emperor Tai of The Great, the General Secretary of the Eastern Palace, and the Lieutenant of the Infantry School, and was valued by Xiao Tong, the Crown Prince of Zhaoming, and the scribe Shen Yue. In his later years, he became a monk and was called Wise Land. His "Wenxin Carved Dragon" is the first systematic literary criticism work in China. The book systematically expounds the theory of literary criticism since the pre-Qin Dynasty and plays an important role in the history of literature.
