Interpretation of "Dang Kou Zhi": Who defeated Hu Yanzhuo, the eighth ranked member of the Water Margin?

author:Shigeru Hakuba

Text: Dutou Yun Ge (author's original authorization)

Previously, Du tou and everyone read the 130th time of "Dang Kou Zhi" (the sequel to "Water Margin", written by Yu Wanchun in the Qing Dynasty), Chen Xizhen used the trick of turning the tiger away from the mountain, lured Lin Chong to pursue, and successfully recovered Puzhou. Today we continue to read the 131st time of the "Dang Kou Zhi" "Yun Tian Biao Banner is divided into five colors, and Hu Yan burns four doors" to see how the follow-up development is.

Synopsis: After Yun Tianbiao led his troops to retake Laiwu and Tai'an, the whole army was stationed in Laiwu, received a reward from the imperial court, and then borrowed to Yanzhou to prepare to retake Jiaxiang. After Hu Yanzhuo recaptured Jiaxiang before, in order to prevent the officers and troops from attacking again, he expanded the city base, strengthened the city wall, and prepared to resist the enemy officers and troops, after receiving the news of Yun Tianbiao's arrival, Hu Yanzhuo consulted with Han Tao, Peng Xuan, Xuan Zan, Hao Siwen, and finally decided that Hu Yanzhuo, Han Tao, and Peng Xuan would lead the army out of the city to camp, preparing to take advantage of the fact that the official army was not stable and kill a subordinate Mawei first. Unexpectedly, when the officers and troops arrived, they had already made preparations, and Hu Yanzhuo and other sneak attacks failed, so they decided to fight to the death in the back of the city, and distinguished the three armies with three flag colors. After watching the situation of Huyanzhuo's army, Liu Huiniang consulted with Yun Tianbiao and also divided different colors of banners to distinguish her army, and when she was engaged in battle with Huyanzhuo, she used the same color to confuse Huyanzhuo, and HuYanzhuo was indeed in the middle of the plan, and did not distinguish between the north and the south, and as a result, Han Tao and Peng Xuan were killed in battle, and the officials and troops deceived Xuanzan and Hao Siwen in the city under the pretext of the color of the Huyanzhao military flag, and captured the city, and Xuan and Hao were also captured. After Hu Yanzhuo escaped from the siege alone, he fled to the Nanwang camp and prepared to attack Jiaxiang with Shan Tingjue and Wei Dingguo, but because the city was strong and could not be attacked, Hu Yanzhuo had the strength to kill the four gates and engage the fierce generals under Yun Tianbiao, and as a result, Shan Tingjue and Wei Dingguo were captured again, and the officers launched a general attack, Hu Yanzhuo's entire army collapsed, and he fled back to Liangshan on a single horse.

Interpretation of "Dang Kou Zhi": Who defeated Hu Yanzhuo, the eighth ranked member of the Water Margin?

(Illustration of the scene between Yun Tianbiao and Hu Yanzhuo in the Battle of Jiaxiang, published in the late Qing Dynasty, "Dang Kou Zhi")

Dutou Yue: After the previous Hui official army recaptured Puzhou, Jiaxiang, the last outer county of Liangshan, was finally unable to escape the doom of being attacked by the official army. Lin Chong and Hu Yanzhuo, as the five tiger generals of Liangshan, were supposed to say that even if they lost Puzhou and Jiaxiang, they would definitely plunge the officers and troops into a bitter battle and pay some price. However, it was a pity that the officials and troops recaptured Puzhou and Jiaxiang with great ease, and basically did not suffer any losses. What is even more interesting is that in this return, the author carefully designed Hu Yanzhuo to build Jiaxiang into a "golden city soup pond", but let the officials and troops easily seize and let Hu Yanzhuo fight the city he built, which is a great irony. Because in the eyes of the author, the good han of Liangshan is just a group of "rabble-rousers" compared to the officers and soldiers, even if there are a few powerful figures, they are only the courage of the puppets, and in front of Chen Xizhen, Yun Tianbiao and other thunder gods, they are not vulnerable at all, and there is only one way to fail. Speaking of which, let's first look at the historical allusions involved in this review.

Interpretation of "Dang Kou Zhi": Who defeated Hu Yanzhuo, the eighth ranked member of the Water Margin?

There are four allusions involved in this return, the first of which is that after Liu Huiniang watched Hu Yanzhuo's army formation, she nodded her head darkly: "This is the method of the Spring and Autumn Period when the husband sent a faction to fight for the alliance." The thief uses this, and the meaning of the death battle behind the city is known without asking. "Regarding the allusion to the Fu Cha Controversy, there is a relevant record in the "Chinese", which has been interpreted by the author in the thirty-fifth time of the Dutou Pin Dangkou, and in order to save space, I will not repeat it here.

The second allusion is that after Hu Yanzhuo lost the city, he angrily led his troops to attack the city, and as a result, Yun Tianbiao replied to him: "Every inch of grass and soil in this city is an inherent thing of the Heavenly Dynasty, if you want to xingnan Wangyu Party to come here and sprinkle, you see, such a high city and wide trenches, then it can be attacked?" Fan Jinmen commented here, "Miao, Miao! Fang Wu Zhonghua wrote Hu Yan to build the city kaihao, especially for the role of Tianbiao here. Because of the Nanhua Shu Chapter, he sighed for Hu Yan. At the beginning of the article, the author gives an example, he believes that in order to prevent thieves from prying the box, pulling out the pocket, and opening the cabinet, the average person will tighten the pocket rope knot in advance and strengthen the latch and lock key of the cabinet, thinking that this is a clever practice. However, once the thief came, he directly carried the cabinet, carried the box, and carried the pocket and ran quickly, lest the knot, latch and lock key were not strong enough, so if you look at it, it is equivalent to the theft of the thief in advance to accumulate and reserve, and the precautions taken before are only to provide convenience for the thief. Fan Jinmen here believed that Hu Yanzhuo had strengthened the Jiaxiang City pool in order to resist the official army, but instead of wanting to be easily captured by Yun Tianbiao, it became a big obstacle to his own recovery of the city, which was the same as what Zhuangzi said, and the hard work of making a wedding dress for others was in vain.

Interpretation of "Dang Kou Zhi": Who defeated Hu Yanzhuo, the eighth ranked member of the Water Margin?

The third allusion is that Hu Yanzhuo escaped on a single horse after his defeat and sighed loudly: "I regret not listening to my brother's words, so much so." However, to this day, no matter what face he has to join the official army again, it is better to die and follow Song Gongming. Fan Jinmen commented here [poem: "How can it be shu, carry Xu and drown." This is also true. The sentence that Fan Kinmen quotes here is from the Book of Poetry, Daya Sangrou, and the full sentence of the verse in the poem is "For the sake of conspiracy, chaos is slashed." Sorrow, Lord of the Earl. Who can hold on to the heat and pass away? How can it be Shu, Carry Xu and drown. This means that "careful planning and finding a cure can eliminate chaos." Tell you to be compassionate, tell you to be virtuous. Who doesn't use cold water to take a shower when it's hot? It is not good for the villains to rule the country, and everyone is drowned and destroyed. Fan Jinmen here believes that Song Jiang is a villain who is falsely loyal and falsely righteous, and Hu Yanzhuo follows the wrong person, and in the end can only end up with a "funeral product".

The fourth allusion is that Fan Jinmen said in his commentary: "Zuo Shiyun: the flag moves and drums; also known as: the eyes and ears of the master, in my flag and drum." If it is the reason why the flag feels the three armies also. The two sentences quoted here are from the "Zuo Chuan" Huan Gong fifth year and the second year of Cheng Gong, is the Spring and Autumn Period Zheng Zhuang Gong and Jin Guo Dafu Xie Zhang said in battle, in ancient times the army fought, the number of people, relying on the sound of command alone is impossible, so the flag, gold, drum three things have become the magic weapon to command the army, with the flag can be divided into army ranks and different types of troops, drumming march, sounding gold to collect troops, so that the whole army can advance and retreat, so Fan Jinmen here cites the "Left Transmission" The two sentences in the middle are intended to illustrate the importance of the flag in ancient warfare.

After talking about the allusions, let's talk about a plot in this episode" "Hu Yan scorching force to kill the four doors." I believe that readers who like classical novels should be very familiar with the meme of "killing the four doors", Luo Cheng in "Sui and Tang Dynasty Yanyi", Yang Qilang Yang Yansi in "Yang Jia General Yanyi", and Qin Huaiyu, son of Qin Qiong in "Xue Rengui Zhengdong", have all done this, "killing the four doors", nothing more than trying to highlight the martial arts of a certain martial artist, brave and fearless. Hu Yanzhuo is one of the five tiger generals of the Liangshan Ma Army, martial arts needless to say, the plot of designing his "force to kill the four doors" is understandable, but if you read the story, I believe that this "force to kill the four doors" will definitely give the reader a completely different feeling. Fan Jinmen commented in the text, "Those who kill the four doors are also familiar with the rotten habits of barnyard officials." Yu Chu saw the outline, did not understand what Zhonghua took from Huer, and looked at its writing, it was strange and strange, and it was impossible to square things, so it turned decay into magic. Sincerely, Foo can reach it. Then how Hu Yanzhuo, who was held up by Fan Jinmen to the heavens, "killed the four doors", we might as well take a look.

Interpretation of "Dang Kou Zhi": Who defeated Hu Yanzhuo, the eighth ranked member of the Water Margin?

After losing Jiaxiang in Huyanzhuo, he ran to Nanwang Camp to consult with Shan Tingjue and Wei Dingguo, and decided to attack Jiaxiang and retake the city. They first came to the north gate and ordered the soldiers to attack the city, but the result was naturally failure. Hu Yan was so angry that he went to Yun Tianbiao to single out, but at this time, Yun Tianbiao did not take him seriously at all, and sent the veteran general Pang Yi out of the horse, and the two fought for more than forty times without winning or losing, and then three-on-three fought until the night to collect troops. On the second day, Hu Yanzhuo went to the East Gate again, and the wind would fight for more than forty rounds, but this time it was not so lucky as the last time, and Shan Tingjue was caught alive by Wen Da with the old trick of Guan Sheng in the original book. On the third day, Hu Yanzhuo and Wei Dingguo went to the East Gate again, and fought with Ha Lansheng for more than forty draws, and the funny thing is that Wei Dingguo was caught alive by Wen Da with the same routine. On the fourth day, Hu Yanzhuo himself led his troops to the south gate again, Yun Tianbiao launched a general attack, Hu Yanzhuo ran out before he could fight his men, and became a veritable commander of the light pole, and could only escape back to Liangshan on a single horse. The above is the general experience of Hu Yanzhuo's "force to kill the four doors". Here, Hu Yanzhuo's version of "force to kill the four doors" not only failed to kill or capture a general of the enemy army, but also put the second general of water and fire into the process, Hu Yanzhuo was completely portrayed by the author as a simple-minded, well-developed limbs of the "brainless puppet" image, Fan Jinmen said that Yu Wanchun wrote in this paragraph of "light and strange Land Departure", the author sees that it is not only "light and strange Lu Li", it is simply "flying self", the stem of "force killing the four doors" is used by Yu Wanchun in reverse, and the stunned is from a positive word to a derogatory word. From this, it can also be seen that in order to eliminate and slander the good man of Liangshan, the author completely disregarded the logic of the writing, and really could do anything.
