In July 1945, the final victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan was in sight. The Japanese fascists, caught in the grip of the Allies on all fronts, had no choice but to move their limited forces back and forth to fill the gaps on the front by digging up meat and filling the sores. The Shandong Military Region of our Eighth Route Army held a meeting of cadres and decided to take advantage of the enemy's empty strength to launch an offensive campaign against the puppet army Zhang Buyun's troops, in an effort to destroy the living forces of this hardcore traitor and create conditions for a major counteroffensive.
Our army has successively mobilized the main forces of the Luzhong Military Region, the Coastal Military Region, and local troops to participate in the campaign. The participating units successively conquered zhang buyun's outer strongholds in Xiangzhou, isolating their main two divisions in the Xiangzhou and Shuangmiao areas, and cutting off their contact with the outside world. By July 6, Zhang Buyun's two divisions had been completely encircled by our army, and the final general offensive was about to begin.
On the afternoon of 15 July, our army braved heavy rain to advance toward Xiangzhou and entered the starting position of the attack at dusk. That night, our army took advantage of the enemy's panic and launched an attack. The 1st and 12th regiments of Luzhong captured Shuangmiao, the stronghold of Zhang Buyun's 2nd Division, killing the puppet division commander and annihilating most of the enemy army. Our 6th and 13th Binhai Regiments also launched an attack on the 1st Division of Zhang Buyunbu in Xiangzhou.

The battle was extremely fierce, and the two sides fought fiercely until dusk on the 2nd day, when the 13th Regiment and the 6th Regiment carried out a north-south attack, and the 2nd Battalion of the 6th Regiment, with the cooperation of the 3rd Battalion, carried out continuous blasting of the pillboxes outside the enemy's strongholds, and after blowing up several pillboxes, tore open the enemy's defense line, and then our army broke into the depth of the enemy's defense and blew up the enemy's core artillery tower.
The puppet army, which had lost the cover of the bunker, was suddenly in chaos, and began to scramble to seize the road and flee, and most of the enemy army was annihilated, either killed or surrendered. After nearly a full day of fierce fighting, the main force of the 1st Division of Zhang Buyun's puppet army was all annihilated.
After Zhang Buyun's main force was destroyed by our army, the entire stronghold on the west bank of the Weihe River was gone, and the enemy on the east bank of the river, intimidated by our army's troops, also abandoned the stronghold and fled to the Japanese stronghold. On July 26, the troops of our Coastal Military Region crossed the Weihe River and continued to eliminate the puppet army that dared to resist.
The port head is the old lair of the local hardcore traitor Lü Xiaoxian, who has an offensive and defensive alliance with Zhang Buyun, and after the collapse of Zhangbu, he accepted many remnants of Zhangbu's defeated generals, coupled with its original strength, the strength expanded rapidly, and it was quite likely to block the offensive of our army. The Coastal Military Region was determined to strike iron while it was hot and annihilate Lü Bu together.
Our 6th Coastal Regiment attacked with the 3rd Battalion as the main attack and launched a fierce attack on the port head, but the enemy's fire at the north gate in the main assault direction of our army was very fierce, and the walls and other fortifications were very strong, and the 3rd Battalion failed to break through 6 consecutive explosions. Finally, after personally observing the situation on the front line, the commander of the 3rd Battalion ordered the demolitionist to bring a bayonet, and when approaching the gate of the enemy stronghold, insert the bayonet into the crack of the door, and then hang the explosive package to detonate.
The 7th blast was finally successful, the north gate was completely destroyed, and our army rushed along the gate into the enemy's stronghold, and the enemy fled like headless flies. Lü Xiaoxian and a small number of loyal troops were trapped in several fortified compounds in the southeast corner of the stronghold, and after our army surrounded the compound, they immediately launched a political offensive, and the puppet army was shaken, and some people kept surrendering.
Lü Xiao saw that there was no way to resist, so he wanted to use the pretext of negotiating surrender to find an opportunity to escape. While pretending to send representatives to negotiate, he ordered his cronies to make holes in the wall and prepare to escape. However, the 1st Squad of the 8th Company of the 3rd Battalion of our 6th Regiment discovered the hole in the wall dug by the enemy in time, rushed through the hole one step ahead of time, blocked Lü Xiaoxian and a group of traitors in the conference room, and took them all prisoner. At this point, the Battle of Zhangzhang was victoriously concluded.
