IT House January 6 news, HTC at CES 2022 released a new VR tracking device - Vive Wrist Tracker wrist tracker, for its $1300 enterprise standalone headset Vive Focus 3. It is expected to go on sale sometime in the early this year, starting at $129 (about 821 yuan).
IT House learned that the new Vive Wrist Tracker is a wrist-worn device, used with Vive Focus 3's inside-out tracking system, and the principle is basically the same as the tracking method of the headset handle in the indoor space, that is, optical tracking of infrared LEDs through the on-board camera sensor of the headset.
HTC said in the announcement that the tracker allows users to tie it to their wrists for what the company calls "advanced hand tracking," or to objects such as gun controllers, ping-pong rackets or tools.
In the video below, a gun can be seen fitted with the Vive wrist tracker, enabling a virtual weapon with 6DoF (3 types of panning freedom + 3 types of rotational freedom) tracking.
HTC says the Vive wrist tracker is 85 percent smaller than the handle of the Vive Focus 3 and 50 percent lighter at 63 grams. Up to 4 hours of continuous use, charging via USB-C.
HTC will launch the Vive wrist tracker in the U.S. in early 2022, and HTC has also released a number of other Vive Focus 3 accessories, including a new charging case and a multi-battery charging base, both of which are unclear when they will be available.
