A major memorial hall of the Communist Party of China displays 50 newly collected cultural relics

Shanghai, January 13 (China Youth Daily) -- This afternoon, a major memorial hall of the Communist Party of China held a press conference on the results of the collection of cultural relics in 2021, showing the original wedding photos of Li Hanjun and Chen Jingzhu, a major representative of the Communist Party of China, "Essentials of Historiography" by Li Dazhao in 1926, the English version of "Red Star Shines on China (Journey to the West) by Edgar Snow published by Victor Grants Company in London in October 1937" and various versions of the "Communist Manifesto" and other cultural relics.

Xue Feng, secretary of the party committee and director of the cpc's major memorial hall, said that 2021 is the centennial of the party, and all sectors of society are very supportive of the work of the cpc's major memorial hall. In the past year, a major memorial hall of the Communist Party of China has collected more than 1,500 pieces of various collections, and more than 250 pieces (sets) have been selected from them to participate in the cultural relics appraisal meeting, and this activity is to select 50 pieces from the 173 cultural relics identified as cultural relics and display them to the society.

The photograph, which was rated as a Grade II cultural relic, was donated by Huang Jian, the grandson of Li Hanjun and a retired professor at the School of Power and Mechanical Engineering at Wuhan University. In the photo, Li Hanjun is dressed in a suit and wearing a corsage, and Chen Jingzhu, who is holding a white gauze dress and holding flowers in his right arm. In 1920, Li Hanjun's first wife unfortunately died of illness, and he lived alone with a son and a daughter. In the spring of 1923, Li Hanjun, who was teaching sociology at Wuchang Higher Normal School (now Wuhan University), was introduced by Wan Shengyang, a member of the League, and married Wan Shengyang's aunt Chen Jingzhu, and the two had a good relationship after marriage. After the "April 12" counter-revolutionary coup, Li Hanjun, in his capacity as director of the Education Department of the Hubei Provincial Party Department of the Kuomintang and minister of youth, protected a large number of Communist Party members and members of the Communist Youth League whose identities had not yet been revealed. On December 17, Li Hanjun was arrested by the Gui warlords in front of Chen Jingzhu and killed that night, at the age of 37.

Li Dazhao was a pioneer of the Chinese communist movement and one of the founders of Chinese Marxist historiography. He left behind a large number of books, manuscripts and translations, covering philosophy, economics, law, history, ethics, aesthetics, journalism, librarianship and many other fields, of which "Essentials of Historiography" concentrated and systematically reflected his view of history and historiography. In 1924 and 1926, the Commercial Press twice published "Essentials of Historiography". Due to its small audience and small number of survivors, this 1926 "Essentials of Historiography" is particularly precious and has been rated as a second-class cultural relic.
