The Redding Police Department (RPD) in California has recently successfully purchased a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus RWD (Standard Edition) as a patrol car.
The Tesla Model3 will be used for patrols, **** and community events, and its total cost is estimated at $55,000 (Tesla's base version is priced at $37,990 before tax), which includes $10,000 for preparing and equipping vehicle emergency equipment, $3,000 for adding RPD decals and wrapping vehicles, and $500 for required Tesla chargers.
The City of Reading writes:
"The total cost of the proposed vehicle is the total cost of the latest patrol car purchased by the Redding Police Department (RPD) in California, and various federal law enforcement agencies currently using Tesla electric vehicles have achieved average annual fuel and maintenance savings of $7,000 to $9,000, and purchasing this pure electric vehicle can be seen as a way for us to reduce fuel and maintenance costs."
The California Reading Police Department (RPD) considered several other brands and models of electric vehicles before purchasing, including the 2020 Hyundai Kona EV, the 2020 Toyota Mirai, and the 2020 Kia Niro EV, but the Tesla Model 3 had important advantages over other models and was selected.
