On March 16, 2022, Hyundai reportedly officially notified its North American division that a 2019 Nexo caught fire after refueling at a hydrogen refueling station in South Korea. After investigation, the cause of the accident was that after the vehicle completed hydrogenation, the material of the hydrogenation port fell off, resulting in hydrogen leakage, and the owner ignited the hydrogen because of the static electricity on his hand when he got out of the car to check.
