In terms of appearance, the new BMW M5 has a new design for the front and rear on the basis of continuing the low-lying sports style. The front face is still equipped with a kidney grille, which is larger than the old model, and the central connection is also wider, and the bright strip decoration is added around the perimeter, and the "M5" logo is hung on the left side for a stronger visual impact.
The headlights on both sides are blackened, revealing a sharp eye under the action of the lens, which is extremely aggressive. Vertical LED daytime running lights are designed inside the light cluster, with a slight arrow shape, like an indicator arrow on the track, which reinforces the sense of sportiness. The lower grille is integrated into the front bumper, and the sides are also designed with triangular deflectors.
From the side, the new car has a sharp and elegant body, and the slender front cabin supports the BMW 5:5 design concept, bringing excellent handling performance to the driver. In addition, as a new energy vehicle, the new BMW M5 is equipped with semi-hidden door handles, which can be regarded as finding a balance between low wind resistance and practicality.
The rear design of the new car is also sporty, with a fitted rear wing at the top and a double-sided four-outlet sports tailpipe at the bottom, paired with a large diffuser to give it a sporty look. The tail lights in the middle have a new design, with a slender shape and a neat horizontal arrangement of the internal light strips, which is less recognizable than the old model, but looks more luxurious.
In the interior part, the new car has added more sense of science and technology, such as the blue decorative strip embedded in the asymmetrical center console, the 12.3-inch LCD instrument + 14.9-inch central control screen, and the red and blue control panel below, etc., cancel a large number of traditional physical buttons, integrated in the steering wheel and central control screen, visually refreshing a lot.
However, as a high-performance car, the new BMW M5 still retains a lot of sporty design and equipment, equipped with a three-spoke D-shaped steering wheel with red and blue two-tone stitching, and there are paddle shifters and M function buttons at the rear. The front seats are equipped with sports seats in black and orange fabric, which are highly enveloping and provide support for excellent driving performance.
In terms of power, the new car is equipped with a new plug-in hybrid system, equipped with a 4.4T V8 twin-turbo engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission, with a maximum engine power of 577 horsepower, a maximum motor power of 194 horsepower, and a combined system power of 717 horsepower (535kW), making it the strongest BMW M5 in history. However, the car's power battery capacity is small, only 14.8kWh, and the pure electric range is 40km, which is a bit better than nothing.
However, thanks to the plug-in hybrid system, the weight of the new BMW M5 has increased significantly to 2,445 kg, which also makes it less effective in accelerating even though it is equipped with the most powerful in history. The previous-generation F90 M5 was able to accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in 3.2 seconds, while the new BMW M5 took 3.4 seconds.
Like its predecessor, the 2025 BMW M5 is still equipped with all-wheel drive. By default, power is distributed to all four wheels. But if you're looking for the classic M-car drifting thrill, you can opt for a rear-biased all-wheel drive mode or, for a more aggressive twist, a complete lock-in front-wheel drive for pure rear-wheel drive fun.
It is reported that the new car will make its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, and BMW will also start production at its Dingolfing plant in July. As for the price, the official guide price starts at $119,500, which is up 16% from the 2018 BMW M5's debut price of $102,600.
