On June 28, the 2024 International Shipping Service and the 40th Anniversary Forum of China's Shipowners' Mutual Insurance with the theme of "Accumulating Factor Fusion and Serving the High-end of Shipping" was held on the North Bund. The 40th anniversary ceremony of China's shipowners' mutual insurance business was held at the event. Zhang Songsheng, Chairman of PIL, Wang Weiren, Deputy Secretary-General of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, Yu Fulin, Director of Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, and Lv Ming, Deputy Secretary of Hongkou District Party Committee and Mayor of Hongkou District, took the stage to commemorate the commemoration and wish that China's shipowners' mutual insurance business will set sail at a new starting point and jointly shape a better future for global industry cooperation.
The year 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China Shipowners' P&I Business and China P&I Association. China P&I Association (CSI) is the only international P&I organization in mainland China and the largest P&I insurer in China. In September 2015, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government signed a Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation with CSSC. In October 2017, the business headquarters of CSSC was relocated to the North Bund, and the total tonnage of members of the association has developed rapidly since its settlement, from 40.59 million tons in February 2017 to more than 92 million tons at present.
CSSC provides members with one-stop services such as P&I insurance, mutual ship insurance, chartering insurance, defense insurance, shipping delay insurance, etc., focusing on the innovation and upgrading of claims, loss prevention and compliance services. According to China Shipbuilding Insurance, according to the data of Clarkson, a world-renowned shipping research company, in 2023, China's seaborne import and export volume has reached 3.72 billion tons, accounting for 30% of the world's total, becoming the largest trading country; As of August last year, Chinese shipowners held a fleet of about 250 million gross tons, making it the largest ship-owning country, and the world's largest in terms of port throughput and shipbuilding deliveries.
Since CSSC settled in Hongkou, it has enriched the shipping elements of the North Bund, filled the gap in the field of shipping P&I on the North Bund, and promoted the North Bund to become an important position in the mainland shipping P&I. Since 2017, it has successively held a number of activities, including the "Belt and Road" and the construction of maritime rule of law, the Shipping Insurance and Commercial Seminar, and the Shipping Financial Leasing Salon, to further polish the shipping brand of the North Bund. In 2022, the North Bund Shipping Lounge was officially unveiled in the CSSC Building, which is an important extension of the North Bund International Shipping Forum, committed to building an interactive platform for the shipping industry chain, building a stage for the exchange of important views, the release of important policies, and the cultivation of important rules, and promoting the high-end and international development of the shipping service industry. In 2023, the innovative mechanism for the release of judicial arrest of CSSC ships was officially released as an outcome at the Finance and Insurance Forum of the North Bund International Shipping Forum.
The forum was hosted by the China P&I Association, and was attended by nearly 400 guests from relevant domestic and foreign authorities, international and domestic industry organizations, global shipping, ports, cargo owners, finance, insurance, brokerage, law, arbitration, classification societies, shipping technology, maritime services, universities, research institutions and other relevant parties.
The forum aims to focus on the opportunities and challenges brought about by the profound changes in the global shipping industry, discuss the important role of the high-end shipping service industry in promoting the transformation and upgrading of the shipping industry and helping the development of new quality productivity in shipping, think about new ways to improve the energy level of the high-end shipping service industry, gather a strong driving force to promote the high-quality development of the industry, and contribute wisdom and strength to the high-level allocation of global resources and high-level international cooperation. The forum contributed many overall, forward-looking and targeted views, and further highlighted the valuable consensus on industry exchanges and development cooperation.
During the forum, the guests gave keynote speeches on the theme of the conference and conducted roundtable interviews.
