In 2021, the Party Central Committee decided to award commemorative medals to veteran party members who have been "glorious in the party for 50 years". At that time, I was a 60-year party member, and I was among them. The glittering commemorative medal is an affirmation of my 60 years of wholeheartedly following the party, unswervingly, doing my best, and working steadfastly, and it is also the most cherished honor in my life.
I gazed at the medallion, the bright red background was engraved with the party emblem composed of sickles and axes, and the four golden characters of the issuer "Central Committee of the Communist Party of China" were impressively visible. The heavy weight made me marvel: an ordinary Communist Party member, enjoying the commemorative medal issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, aroused my infinite contemplation and reverie.
I remember when I was five years old, my hometown in northern Jiangsu was hit by floods, and my house and fields were soaked in white water, and my mother took my sister and me to escape death and take a small boat to Shanghai. My father, who was pulling a rickshaw in Shanghai to make a living, picked us up and lived in the rolling dragon in the north of Xinzha Bridge. My sister worked as a child laborer in a brush factory, and I followed the children next door to the Suzhou Creek Wharf to pick up vegetable skins and boil them until liberation. My father went to work as a factory worker, and I went to school. In order to repay the party's kindness, in 1958, I actively signed up for conscription and went to Lushunkou in Northeast China to become a sailor on a torpedo boat.
I remember that at that time, the motherland had just risen from the ruins of war, and the torpedo boats were the "angry sea thunder" guarding the sea frontier, and the "small guys" of less than 100 tons sank thousands of tons of enemy warships many times in naval battles, supporting half of the main equipment of the people's navy. We patrolled and cruised in the wind and waves, and practiced hard to kill the enemy. In the early 60s of the 20 th century, serious natural disasters struck the mainland for three consecutive years, and the international situation was also grim. Filled with righteous indignation, we expressed our determination to the party individually, the whole boat, and the whole squadron, not only signing our names, but also biting our fingers and pressing bloody handprints. I also submitted an application to the party branch to join the party and asked the party to examine me in actual combat.
In the second half of 1961, during the summary period after the end of an ambush mission, at the branch meeting on the frontier islands and reefs, I read out the application for joining the party word by word, and accepted the deliberation of all party members of the branch, and finally the party members voted unanimously to approve it. Soon after, the political commissar talked to me and told me: "For a party member, joining the party organizationally once in a lifetime, and joining the party ideologically is once in a lifetime." I took that to heart. From the moment he raised his right hand under the banner of the party and took the oath, he was determined to be a member of the party and a communist party member who reassured the party and the people.
I was born in the old society and grew up under the five-star red flag. Witness the great historical process of the country from standing up, getting rich to becoming strong. Especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, as a witness to the new era, from the party's centennial struggle, from the party's leadership of the people of the whole country to work hard and achieve brilliant achievements, I deeply understand: only the Communist Party can save China, enrich China, and strengthen China; I have better understood the basic principles of why the Communist Party of China can, why Marxism works, and why socialism with Chinese characteristics is good, so as to more adhere to the original intention of joining the party, never forget the oath of joining the party, always maintain the true character of a Communist Party member, and actively be a Communist Party member who speaks for the party in the party, loves the party in the party, protects the party in the party, and works for the party in the party.
Along the way, from the barracks to the locality, from incumbency to retirement. I have been a member of the party for 60 years, and the party's brilliance shines on my heart. From youth to ancient gray hair, from passion burning to sunset like blood, it is 60 years of the party's nurturing and growth, 60 years of continuous progress, 60 years of character training, and 60 years of testing. There are flowers blooming and thorns along the way, there are smooth roads and traps, it is the party's continuous education and training, so that I am always cautious and sober, my heart is bright, my heart is clear, and I am steady and far-reaching.
On the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, I carefully took out the commemorative medal in my collection, put it in front of me and looked at it carefully, staring at it, my heart fluctuated, and a deep affection surged into my heart: the party is the banner in my heart, always flying high; The party is the fertile soil in my heart, and hope will always grow; The party is the driving force in my heart, and it will never be stopped on the way forward.
The medal in my hand is shining gold, it is the light of faith, the light of hope, the light of victory, and the light that will never be extinguished in my heart, guiding the way forward.
