Control of the cyclone moth ensures abundant production of tulip silkworms

author:China Agricultural Extension Network

The whirlwind boat moth, commonly known as the pot worm and the ass bean worm, is the main pest of the silkworm tree. According to the forecast, there is a great possibility of occurrence in 2003, and prevention and control should be strengthened. Whirlwind boat moths occur in a generation that overwinter in the soil with pupae. Adults begin to feather in early July and form a peak of feathering in mid-July. Adults have strong phototropism. Eggs are laid on both sides of the main vein on the dorsal back of the tulip leaf, 3-5 on one leaf, and up to 270 eggs per moth. In humid climates, eggs hatch 95%. The larvae feed on the leaves of the tulip and compete with the tulip silkworm for food, causing serious harm to the production of the tulip silkworm. The occurrence cycle of the cyclone boat moth is about 5-7 years, and there are 5-15 larvae per pier tree in the autumn of 1990, and as many as 200 heads per pier tree in the autumn of 1991, resulting in a serious reduction in the production of tulip silkworms. According to the autumn survey of 2002, there are 4-7 larvae per mound tree in the local silkworm farm, and the density of insect populations is higher than that of ordinary years, indicating that it is close to the occurrence cycle, and 2003 may be a large occurrence year. Therefore, attention should be paid to prevention.

The control methods of the cyclone boat moth are as follows.

1. The use of natural enemies to control red-eyed bees is a good natural enemy in production, can be released from July 10 to control bees, the bee card is torn into small pieces, pinned on the branches of the tulip tree, according to the distance between 15 meters × 30 meters to release bees. The size of each bee card depends on the density of the eggs. If the silkworm farm is too close to the seed production point, it should be used with caution to prevent red-eyed bees from parasitizing tulip eggs.

2. Light booby-trap According to the phototropism of adult insects, it can be booby-trapped by black light or 200-watt incandescent lamp. Under the lamp, a container containing water can be placed to enhance the booby trap effect.

3. Drug killing can be sprayed with 50% of the dichlorvos 500 times liquid 4-5 days before the silkworm is released
