The most famous work of the famous manga artist Naoki Urasawa is probably "20th Century Boy". He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Star University. 1983 with 'BETA!' debut. The early style was inspirational and warm youth growth comics, and then turned to a deeper exploration of human nature and social phenomena, covering history, psychology, criminology, science fiction and so on. Representative works include 'YAWARA!', 'MONSTER(MONSTER)', '20th Century Boy', 'PLUTO'.

Here's the poster he designed for the Tokyo Olympics:

Now it's your turn! )

When creating the poster, he adopted the form of sports comics, which he had a unique view:

Sports manga is a unique genre among Japanese manga and is rare worldwide. This genre of manga played an unparalleled role in the development and prosperity of Japanese manga. This is because the excitement of watching sports matches is consistent with the frequency of publication of Japanese manga weekly. And cartoonists too

I have always been challenged to use comics to present the excitement and fun of sports competition.

"When is the next issue coming out?" Readers look forward to the progress of the event every week as if it were a real race. This poster was painted for the Olympics, and I tried to paint a style that transcended competition, race and gender.

Everyone has a chance to end.

Next, it's your turn.

contemporary artist Nobuhiro Otake

Noburo Ohtake is a contemporary artist born in 1955. In 1974, after Otake applied for the Tokyo University of the Arts, he entered another equally famous Musashino Art University to study oil painting, then dropped out of school to study in the United Kingdom for a year, and returned to Japan to continue his studies at Musashino Art University and graduated.

In the early 1980s, he debuted in a distinctive and strong style, which shocked the modern art world and became the standard-bearer of new Japanese painting. Using "existing objects" as materials, he constructs his world strongly and intuitively through paintings, collages, photography, installations, sounds, books and other different media. In 1982, he began to hold solo exhibitions in Japan and the United States, and received high praise.

In 1995, he and Yamazuka EYE formed the performance art duo "Puzzle Punks", and then performed a variety of artistic performances, active in the international arena. In 2006, the large-scale retrospective exhibition "Shinro Ohtake Panorama 1955-2006" was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, with a group of nearly 2,000 works as the culmination of its current artistic activities. In 2012, he went to Germany to participate in the five-year Documenta exhibition in Kassel, and in 2014, he won the Art Department Award of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of japan.

Noburo Otake likes to pick up all kinds of strange waste to decorate the house, and the buildings he designs present a kind of vulgar fun and intimacy of the common people, which is called "ugly architecture".

Here's a poster "Space Kicker" by Nobuhiro Otake for the Tokyo Olympics:

About this poster, here's what he said:

Colorful astronomical spheres fly into space with beams of light, sparkling colors, once-in-a-lifetime gods, pink dolls... These bizarre fantasies gave birth to this poster by Nobuhiro Ohtake.

I remember when I was in elementary school during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, I was at an event that used paper cuts to represent the universe I imagined. This time I didn't have colored paper cuts, and I used scattered drawings scattered around the studio to form this space kicker poster.

As a graduate graphic designer, Daijiro Ohara's work ranges from posters and book mounting to sculptures and strange small objects. In his work, you will feel a state of relaxation, playful scrutiny, and you will really be infected by this happy emotion.

"Moving Line"

When drawing a poster for the Tokyo Olympics, his thoughts and ideas were as follows:

Parabolas, contours, boundaries... All kinds of lines meet in the world. Countless lines wind and separate from each other to form an image. We participated in the roadmap of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Torch Relay, more than 800 cities, different nodes, we all drew out one by one.

How did the world's top athletes come together during the Olympics, and what are the lines on which they compete? It's very difficult to draw every line that everyone takes in this event. I hope that in this intricate and not simple world, everyone can find clues, touch art, and unleash the power of the body.

Shoko Kanazawa, who was born with Down syndrome, nicknamed "Xiaolan", is now a world-famous calligrapher under the care of her mother and late father. Born in Tokyo in 1985. At the age of 5, he began to learn calligraphy from his mother. In 2005, he held his first solo calligraphy exhibition "Shoko The World of Calligraphy". Later, he also held solo exhibitions at Kamakura Kenchoji Temple, Kyoto Keninji Temple, and Nara Todaiji Temple. In 2015, he held his first solo exhibition overseas in New York, and in September and November of the same year, he also held solo exhibitions in Plzeň and Prague in the Czech Republic. He co-authored with his mother "Calligraphy of the Soul Kanazawa Shoko Works Collection" and "Song of the Sea, Voice of the Mountain : The Prayer Journey of Calligrapher Shoko Kanazawa".

On March 20, 2015, at the World Down Syndrome Day conference held at the United Nations Headquarters, Shoko Kanazawa concluded her speech with this sentence:

"I want to bring you energy, joy and emotion."

Xiang

When she painted the poster for the Tokyo Olympics, she used the word "Xiang" in her name as the theme, and also carried her own prayer:

I hope that the souls of the athletes and the spirit that support everyone in the Olympic Games can fly from Tokyo high and pass on to everyone around the world.

In the process of writing, I visualized the dynamics of the athletes and shone brightly. In the background, I used the traditional Japanese gold leaf process and used it to outline the shadows, thus presenting a three-dimensional suspension effect. I hope that calligraphy can release energy and combine traditional techniques to represent the Tokyo Olympic Games with "Japanese style".

Born in 1960 in Akita City, Tomoko Hiroike studied Japanese painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts at about the same time as Takashi Murakami, and after graduation, Tomoko Hiroike specialized in design, engaged in toy design, miscellaneous goods and furniture design, and so on, and returned to the field of painting after 1990. Because of her solid aesthetic background, she has a broad field of vision and a very soft way of thinking, based on which to use a variety of different mediums to fully express her thoughts and perceptions.

Tomoko Hongchi's creative methods cover painting, pencil animation, picture books, sculptures, etc., her works are casual and inspired, and the illustration posters she created for the Tokyo Olympic Games also have a unique spiritual idea, called "Wild Things", which emphasizes the "wildness" contained in everyone's body and soul, hoping that the Olympic Games can carry people's different perceptions, differences, and make the whole ecology more active.

His work for the Tokyo Olympics is called "Olympic Clouds," and he says this about the work itself:

Five rings in different positions move along different trajectories, forming the olympic symbol, which is like athletes from all over the world competing with each other and following the future while maintaining their individuality.

A poster doesn't animate like a video, but when I see it, I imagine a dynamic image to create it. Hand-painted posters are insisted on because this approach is more in line with the Olympic spirit of pursuing physical limits.

Of course, the poster design this time is also indispensable to the design work of Asao Noo, the logo designer of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Born in 1969 in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Asahino Noo graduated from Tokyo University of Edoku, majoring in architectural design. He studied at the AA School of Architecture in London, which was also the school where the architect Zaha Hadid had studied. Today, Asao Noo is also a visiting lecturer at Musashino Art University and Tokyo University of Zogakusha.

As the designer of the Tokyo Olympic Games LOGO, he had his own considerations when creating posters:

The emblem of the 2020 Olympic Games is a ring constructed from different rectangles, and the inside of the ring forms a diamond that looks down.

Blue is an intense and attractive color that has a strong applicability and durability in prints and settles over time.

The shapes formed by rectangles are a combination of modern computers and manual graphics... I pay tribute to the athletes with design, hoping to create a powerful symbol for the Olympic Games.

The recorder of the city is admirable. Some use words, others rely on images. When you think of Paris, you think of Eugène Atget, and when you talk about Japan, you have to say Takashi Homma. In 1998, his photographic album "The Suburbs of Tokyo" recorded the unique style of Tokyo at that time from different aspects, and his entry point was not the core of the city, but the details of the lives of people in the suburbs. Ten years later, his new work "Tokyo" still surrounds the city, but he chooses the daily life of the new generation, and his photography is more affinity and fireworks than Moriyama Avenue. That's probably why the Tokyo Organising Committee invited him to make a photographic poster.

《EXTREME REVELATIONS》

About the work, here's what he said:

Skateboarding originated in rebellious street culture, has its own language of movement, and develops as a newer movement. It is a combination of art, design, fashion and music.

The poster, titled "Extreme Revelation," has three levels. At the bottom of the poster is the natural trajectory of the skateboard's wheel movement. The oppressive black part, the traces of grinding on concrete and metal on the skateboard, are suppressed but clear. The colored part is colored, which is the youthful and energetic color that the skateboarding exudes from the inside out, which is not visible in reality.

Viviane Sassen is a rising Dutch photographer who has won the Holland Rome Award. Her works are intensely colored, fascinating in light and shadow, with vivid geometric compositions, the most notable feature of which is "the mystery of color", the strong contrast between light and dark, Viviane prefers to use extremely tense body language to convey spirit and emotion rather than to use faces and expressions to convey emotions. She hides her face, reinforces her sense of power through overlapping limbs, and combines strong color contrasts to further promote the visual appeal of the image.

Her work for the Tokyo Olympics, she explained:

I want to create an interesting, colorful work. It is designed to present the fun of the competition itself, but also reflects the rich cultural backgrounds and different nationalities of those who participate in the Olympic Games. Olympic Stadium

The poster for the Tokyo Olympics also went through a series of twists and turns:

A few months ago, when I received a request from the organizing committee, the first question that came to my mind was, "Why do you paint still life?" I didn't know what to do at the time. I certainly can't refuse such a request, and when I found a picture of the new National Stadium that Japan had built for the Olympics, I thought I knew where my subject matter came from.

When I made the sketch, I sent it back to the Japanese organizing committee. But when I got the printed sample from the print shop, I was not satisfied. Considering that the venue was in Japan, I considered redrawing it on Japanese paper, so I had this work.

Araki Feiluhiko should not need to introduce too much, right? His comic strip Jojo's Wonderful Adventures is all too famous. The concept of "stand-ins" he created is absolutely unique even in the field of comics, which is known for its fantasy. The charm of his works is not only reflected in the powerful brushstrokes and painting style, but also in the movements and costumes of the characters who appear on the scene.

Regarding the poster, his train of thought is this:

The sea of clouds was like a rough wave, and I painted the image of the god of sports descending from the sky and flying to Japan in an instant. I use Katsushika Hokusai's "Kanagawa Surf" as the theme, but in my paintings, Mt. Fuji I present it in honey.

"The whole body melts into the universe unconditionally and then explodes." This is Okamoto's challenging philosophy, and this is the basis of creation. Athletes challenge themselves and push the limits every day. And I'm also looking for the true meaning of openness on paper. I hope that not only athletes and spectators from all over the world will be open to the occasion, but I also hope that everyone who supports the Olympic Games will be open-minded.

Paralympic Games

Regarding the work, their idea is this:

Pray for those who move on, to break through the limitations of the body, to transcend physical disabilities, to cross nationalities and genders. In 2020, our lives are equal and beautiful. Our theme is "People Moving Forward". The huge figure waved his arms, off the ground, moving, primitive. This poster reflects the pursuit and willingness of all Paralympic athletes. Hats off to all of humanity.

《Offense No.7》

About his work:

What is competition? There are many different types of competition.

I chose to use a wheelchair basketball to present the competition.

It has speed, it has power, and it also gives people a sense of accomplishment.

Bright colors are used to present its sense of health and vitality.

Athletic competition itself embodies the courage of athletes.

Shikazu Kawa is one of the most sought-after female artists in contemporary Japan, along with Takashi Murakami and Michiru Nara. Both her photography and the films she directs show the deep meaning of feminine beauty almost perfectly. Her name now shines like a synonym for "Tokyo." Whether it is photography or film, her visual image language is known for its sweetness, sensuality and authenticity. This time, the Tokyo Organising Committee invited her to make posters for the Paralympic Games.

《Higher than the Rainbow》

Of this work of hers, here's what she said:

Disabled athletes are great, and one of my simple ideas was to take a picture. It's like creating in an empty space, beyond all the impossible.
