Preface
On June 3, 1839 (the twenty-second day of April in the nineteenth year of Daoguang of Xuanzong of the Qing Dynasty), Lin Zexu ordered the destruction of opium in public on Humen Beach, which ended on June 25, lasting 23 days, destroying 19,187 boxes and 2,119 bags of opium, with a total weight of 2376254 catties.
The sale of cigarettes in Humen has become a historical event in the fight against drugs. The League of Nations designated June 3, the day when the tobacco ban in Humen began, as the "International Anti-Smoking Day". The United Nations delegates unanimously agreed to designate June 26, the day after the completion of the tobacco sales in Humen, as the "International Anti-Drug Day" to arouse the attention of all countries in the world to the drug problem and call on people around the world to work together to solve the drug problem.
