IT Home reported on June 9 that social media platform X (formerly Twitter) updated its community guidelines last month, officially allowing users to share content that "adult nudity or sexual acts made and published with consent". Under the new rules, content must be labeled and must not be displayed in a prominent place, such as a profile picture or banner.

IT Home noted that after the release of the new rules, the @Safety account of Platform X tweeted: "We have introduced an adult content and violent content policy to explain our rules more clearly and increase the transparency of enforcement in these areas." These policies supersede our previous policies on sensitive media and violent speech, but our enforcement standards have not changed. ”

In fact, Platform X has not explicitly banned pornography in the past. Since the launch of the Twitter Blue (now X Premium) service, some NSFW (Not Safe For Work) creators have made X their home, encouraging fans to pay to watch their content, a model similar to OnlyFans. After Elon Musk took over, ad sales on Platform X declined, and NSFW content could become one of X's new revenue streams.

Under the new rules, Platform X requires users who "frequently post" NSFW content to adjust their settings to mark the images and videos they post as sensitive. In addition, X's rules apply to all types of adult content, including AI-generated, photo-based, and animated content. By default, NSFW content cannot be viewed by users under the age of 18 or without a date of birth. The new rules also prohibit any content that "promotes exploitation, non-consent, objectification, sexualization, or harm to minors, as well as indecent acts."

In March, Platform X announced that it would allow the NSFW community to apply for an "adult content" label to prevent posts from being automatically filtered. The platform also said it will begin hiding like records on profiles so that users don't get exposed for liking adult or otherwise offensive content.

Despite the updates to the Terms of Service, cracking down on violators is easier said than done. In 2022, Team X has taken this into account when exploring the monetization of adult content. In January of this year, a large number of explicit images of Taylor Swift's AI appeared on the platform, and X failed to stop their spread in time.
