In the Ming Dynasty, there was a strange monk named Yao Guangxiao, who contributed a lot to Zhu Di's seizure of Zhu Yunwen's throne. When he was young, Yao Guangxiao was very good with Gao Qi, a great poet who was highly regarded at that time. One day, Gao Qi and Yao Guangxiao indulged in fine wine together, and a charming kabuki was carefully served by them.

When Yao Guangxiao saw this beautiful woman, inspiration suddenly appeared, and he immediately chanted a couplet: "The poppy beauty wears red embroidered shoes, and the moon descends step by step." On the surface, this couplet describes the graceful posture of the beauty walking under the moon, but in fact, there are also three hidden names of words and songs: poppy, red embroidered shoes, and Bu Bujiao.

Gao Qi praised in amazement: "This Shanglian is really wonderful!" Yao Guangxiao laughed: "Hurry up and give me a link." Gao Qi is talented, naturally he will not be deterred, he pondered for a while, and finally came up with the following couplet: "The water fairy holds a jasper flute, and the sound blows slowly in front of the wind." This couplet also borrowed the names of three word cards: "Water Fairy", "Jasper Flute", "Slow Voice", and the artistic conception is harmonious, the battle is powerful, this pair has also become a masterpiece that has been passed down through the ages.

But this dissatisfaction could not be expressed too obviously, so Qianlong tried to laugh at this ugly candidate with his favorite couplet, hoping that he would retreat himself.

As a result, Qianlong came up with such a pair of Shanglian - "East Qiming, West Chang Gung, South Ji Jī Beidou, and I am the star Han." ”

After Liu Fenghe heard this, he thought for a moment and blurted out the following couplet: "Spring peony, summer peony, autumn chrysanthemum and winter plum, the minister is Tanhualang." ”

Qianlong in Shanglian takes the stars of the four directions of "southeast, northwest" as the theme, and the end of the sentence "Picking the stars" highlights the majesty of the emperor and highlights the extraordinary momentum. In the next couplet, Liu Fenghe echoes the name of the flowers of the four seasons of "spring, summer, autumn and winter", and the end of the sentence "Tanhualang" has the meaning of double entendre, this couplet is really amazing. The upper and lower links are neat and the rhythm is harmonious. So as soon as the next link came out, Qianlong immediately laughed and was very happy, and then said to Liu Fenghe: "Okay, Liu Fenghe, sure enough, you are very intelligent." You responded to 'Tanhualang', and I decided to make you Tanhualang! As a result, Liu Fenghe became the Tanhualang of the year, and his experience has become a widely circulated story.
