Water peanut, also known as hollow lotus seed grass, is a perennial root-bearing weed found in 23 provinces across the country, and can grow regardless of land and water. It is also known as revolutionary grass, over the pond snake, crab chrysanthemum, fat pig vegetables, etc. It is found in both dry fields and paddy fields.
Water peanuts are mainly propagated by stolons, it has strong vitality and excellent reproductive ability, and can grow regardless of water and land. It has a well-developed root system and flourishes on lawns, ponds, and on the ground and on the water. Water peanut was listed as one of the first late-arriving invasive species in China. The water peanut is a nodal plant with an internode length of 19 to 22 cm, a stem thickness of 0.5 cm, and a stem length of 55 cm to 120 cm. The flowers are dense, spherical and capitate, 8 to 15 cm in diameter, and look like lotus flowers. Therefore, there is also a saying of "hollow lotus seed grass". Peanuts bloom for half a year and bloom from May to October every year.
In the lawn, it competes with the grass in the lawn for sunlight, water, fertilizer, and most importantly, occupies the normal growth space of the crop. In humidity and water surface, water peanuts will also multiply in large quantities, reducing the dissolved oxygen content in the water, changing the water quality in rivers or ponds, and affecting water quality. In addition to occupying land and grabbing nutrients, this water peanut will also transmit a variety of parasitic diseases, easy to breed mosquitoes and flies, which will change the water quality of the river and affect fish and shrimp production.
General herbicides only have an effect on the leaves of water peanuts, and it is difficult to eradicate water peanuts, how can we completely kill water peanuts? There are two ways to do this.
The first method is the manual method. Adopt a two-pronged method of manual and mechanical eradication, when eradicating water peanuts, pay attention to how deep you can dig and dig as deep as possible, as far as possible to dig up or salvage by roots, and after shoveling and salvage, water peanuts can be dried or burned in a concentrated manner, and after full decay, you can make green manure to use.
The second method is the chemical method. That is, the method of herbicide spraying, this method only uses acid drops, glyphosate and glyphosate ammonium salt in proportion, which is the simplest and most direct for the control of water peanuts. Here's how:
In fields where crops have not been planted or in crops that have been harvested, systemic conduction herbicides are used, and it is recommended to use drip acid and glyphosate. The method is to spray evenly after 300 ml to 500 ml per mu mixed with 30 kg of water + 100 grams of glyphosate ammonium salt + 50 grams of laundry detergent. You can choose to spray in the period when the peanut grows vigorously, the effect will last for about 14 days after spraying, it is recommended not to break the soil within two weeks, so that the liquid can make the root of the peanut rot. After killing the roots, the water peanut will die naturally. But if the ground is started in less than 14 days, it will be necessary to do weeding by hand.
If there are crops in the field, what about water peanuts? Choose to spray in wheat and corn fields with 20% chlorofluoropyropyroxyacetic acid ethylhexyl emulsifiable concentrate 50~60 ml per mu and 30 kg of water. In the water surface and paddy field, you can spray 250-500 grams of 10% glyphosate water agent per mu, or wait until the water peanut has a height of 4 cm to 13 cm, use 600-900 ml of 10% glyphosate water agent per hectare, dilute it evenly with 600 kg of water and spray it, which can kill most weeds including water peanuts.
