Although new energy vehicles have fast acceleration and low energy consumption per kilometer, the most worrying problem for owners is the battery. Flammable and explosive batteries are undoubtedly the reason why many people stay away from new energy vehicles. But Geely's launch of a new battery may dispel concerns about potential purchases of some new energy vehicles.

1. Fire and corrosion are difficult tests, and Aegis batteries are not only resistant to needle puncture

Battery safety is not only a hot topic of concern for many people, but also the focus of many car companies' publicity. To this end, BYD emphasized the characteristics of its battery that does not catch fire or smoke after undergoing the "acupuncture test" when promoting its blade battery.

Geely's upcoming "Aegis Short Knife Battery" has undergone more safety experiments. In the safety experiment of the China Automotive Technology and Research Center. The Aegis Short Knife battery also underwent acupuncture experiments without explosion or fire.

And in the three tests of seawater corrosion and immersion of the battery pack, three-sided drop and heavy attack at a height of 2 meters, burning for 105 seconds + indirect combustion for 90 seconds, the "Aegis short knife battery" also successfully passed the test.

So what kind of technology makes the "Aegis battery" obtain such safety?

2. Continuation of Aegis battery technology, energy density is further improved

In fact, Geely's "Aegis battery" has been released before and equipped on models such as the Geely Galaxy L7.

New materials and technologies such as the previously low-reactive electrolyte, heat-resistant coating coating technology, and the "Tianzi" battery structure protection of the PACK layer have also been applied to the "Aegis short knife battery".

At the same time, the energy density of the "Aegis short knife battery" is higher, and the energy density of 200Wh/kg even surpasses the level of 190Wh/kg of BYD's second-generation blade battery.

The structure of the "Aegis short knife battery" is somewhat similar to the BYD blade battery, and both batteries are lithium iron phosphate batteries. Obviously, Geely's "calling" BYD has become very obvious.

However, the first model of this "Aegis short knife battery" is not a very high-end model.

3. Galaxy E5 debuts a new battery, or suffers a plug-in hybrid dimensionality reduction blow

The first model of the "Aegis Short Knife Battery" is the E5 of Geely Galaxy, which is a compact SUV with a length, width and height of 4615/1901/1670mm and is based on the 400V platform. Judging from these parameters and the positioning of compact SUVs, this model is obviously benchmarking BYD's Yuan PLUS. It is also a pure electric compact SUV, and the length, width and height of BYD Yuan PLUS 4455/1875/1615mm and the range of 430-510km are indeed a little inferior in front of the Galaxy E5.

But the Galaxy E5 is likely to face sniping from the BYD DM-i 5.0 legion in the 2024 car market. Judging from the unexpected prices of the Qin L and Seal 06, the prices of BYD's next series of fifth-generation DM-i models to be launched in 2024 are likely to be low.

Moreover, the fifth-generation BYD DM-i system is smaller and lighter, so it is not ruled out that BYD will launch a smaller DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV model in the future. The battery life and applicability of its pure electric models will be hit by the dimensionality reduction of plug-in hybrid models.
