On June 27, 2024, Geely Automobile released a new generation of self-developed and self-produced "blade" lithium iron phosphate battery - Aegis short knife battery, which has advantages in terms of safety, service life and other key performance advantages compared with the "long knife battery" in the industry.
First of all, the length of the Aegis short knife battery is 580mm, which is about 40% shorter than that of the long knife battery, with lower internal resistance, less heat and energy loss. Its energy density has been increased to 192Wh/kg, the volume utilization rate has been increased by 50%, the group layout is flexible, and the adaptability is wide, and it is compatible with cars, commercial vehicles, SUVs, MPVs and other models.
In terms of safety, the Aegis Short Knife battery performs well. It is the world's first battery with 8 5mm diameter steel needles punctured at the same time and left for 1 hour, and the battery cell does not smoke, fire or explode, and it is also the world's first battery cell that has passed the penetration test of 5.8mm real bullet gunfire and does not fire or explode under extreme damage conditions. The interior of the separator is made of wet double-coated separator, heat-resistant coatings such as alumina, and high-heat-resistant separator, etc., which improves the heat resistance of the insulation layer and the thermal shrinkage performance of the separator, and the self-fusing technology controls the thermal runaway, which greatly improves the safety level of the battery cell.
The Aegis battery pack is upgraded and iterated on the basis of the original safety system, adopting the industry-leading CTB configuration and the patented design of the "Tianzi grid" framework, the overall mode is increased by more than 2 times, and with the energy-absorbing cavity and multiple protection design, the safety level is higher. At the same time, the three-layer composite material + DP980 steel "sandwich" structure bottom guard plate and special battery anti-collision beam are used to effectively protect the bottom damage. In the event of an unexpected risk of thermal runaway, 2 explosion-proof valves can quickly relieve pressure and dissipate heat, reducing the risk of explosion.
In terms of performance, the Aegis short knife battery has a cycle life of 3,500 times and can safely drive more than 1 million kilometers. 1500 cycles, capacity retention rate of 92.12%; With 2,500 cycles, the capacity retention rate is 87.73%, which effectively solves the problem of low value retention rate of pure electric second-hand cars. Its fast charging performance is excellent, with a 10-80% SOC charging time of only 17 minutes and 4 seconds, and an average charging rate of 2.45C. The low-temperature endurance retention rate is stronger than that of the long knife, with an average lead of 8.7%, and the battery capacity is still above 90% in the temperature environment of -30 °C, which makes up for the shortcomings of the low-temperature performance of lithium iron phosphate batteries.
In addition, as the world's first "cloud, data, and intelligence" integrated super cloud computing platform, Geely Star Smart Computing Center has a super computing power of 10.2 billion times per second, which can monitor batteries 24 hours a day, 7 ×, realize cloud fault warning and other functions, and reduce the risk of user vehicle use.
The Aegis short knife battery pack has passed the six "devil" serial tests carried out by the China Automotive Center, including seawater surfing and plateau extreme cold, and a number of individual test requirements are higher than the national standard, evaluating its performance under extreme conditions to ensure safety and reliability in practical applications.
Aegis short knife cells have been successfully rolled off the production line at Yancheng Yaoning factory on November 25, 2023, and the Yangshanju plant has also been fully put into operation in April 2024 as a battery pack production base.
