Automotive Information Network, June 28 Yesterday, Geely Automobile officially unveiled its proud new generation of self-developed and self-produced "blade" lithium iron phosphate battery technology - Aegis short knife battery. This battery not only has significant advantages in safety performance, cycle life, fast charging efficiency and low-temperature discharge performance, but also provides excellent compatibility for different vehicle models with its unique short body design, high energy density and flexible layout.
Aegis short knife batteries have undergone seven rigorous extreme safety performance tests by China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC). It has demonstrated remarkable stability and safety under multiple tests such as acupuncture, dynamic seawater corrosion, extreme low temperatures, bottom scraping, heavy pressure, side pillar collision and high temperature roasting.
Compared with the traditional long-knife lithium iron phosphate battery, the length of the Aegis short-knife battery is only 580mm, which is shortened by about 40%, which not only reduces the internal resistance and reduces the heating of the cell, but also improves the flexibility and safety of the battery with its wet double-coated separator technology. In the puncture test, it is not easy to break, the damage aperture is small, and the short-circuit area is small, which significantly improves the safety performance of the battery.
In terms of coating selection, Aegis short knife battery abandons the traditional high-temperature ceramic coating, and chooses heat-resistant coatings such as alumina, which is like adding a "safety barrier" between the positive and negative electrodes, which effectively prevents the occurrence of thermal runaway and optimizes the thermal shrinkage performance of the separator.
In terms of battery pack configuration, the Aegis short knife battery has been comprehensively upgraded based on the Aegis battery safety system, and the innovative CTB configuration and the patented design of the "Tianzi grid" framework are adopted, which more than doubles the overall mode. At the same time, combined with the energy-absorbing cavity and the large space reserved between the cell and the box, the risk of cell extrusion is effectively prevented.
In order to ensure the rapid discharge of heat inside the battery, the Aegis Short Knife battery is also equipped with two explosion-proof valves to achieve rapid pressure relief, thereby balancing the internal and external pressure of the battery, and significantly reducing the risk of battery explosion.
In terms of battery life, the Aegis Short Knife battery has also shown excellent performance. It has a cycle life of up to 3500 cycles, and after 2500 cycles, the battery capacity can still be maintained at 87.73%, which is much higher than the 83% retention rate of traditional long-knife batteries.
In terms of fast charging capacity, the Aegis short knife battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in only 17 minutes and 4 seconds, with an average charge rate of up to 2.45C, compared with the 26 minutes and 1.61C charging efficiency of the traditional long knife battery, the Aegis short knife battery undoubtedly has more advantages.
In terms of performance in low temperature environments, the Aegis short knife battery is also outstanding. Under the extreme low temperature of -20°C, its discharge capacity retention rate is as high as 93.56%, far exceeding the 83.26% of traditional long knife batteries.
It is reported that Geely's Galaxy E5 model will be the first model equipped with the Aegis short knife battery, which is expected to be officially launched in the near future, bringing consumers a safer, more efficient and durable battery experience.
