Cui Yu is a native of Fengyang, Anhui Province. During the reign of Emperor Shenzong of the Northern Song Dynasty (reigned 1067-1085), he served in the Imperial Academy of Painting. He and his brother Cui Bai are both painters, both of whom are good at painting flowers and birds, and they also enjoy a high reputation.
Cui Yu's representative works include "Birds in the Bamboo Forest", "Meixi Waterfall" and "Quail".
