Su Shi: I have time to drink tea

Sipping Tea Post (To Daoyuan Post)

Northern Song Dynasty Su Shi

Writing on paper

23 cm in height and 17.7 cm in width

Collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei

——

This is a note written by Su Shi to his friend Du Daoyuan. Ask if Yuan has time to come over for tea, something needs to be discussed. The letter should have been written shortly after Su Shi lived in Huangzhou.

——

Commentary:

Daoyuan is fine. Is it possible to sip tea in vain? There are few things that must be white-faced. Meng Jian must have been safe. Shishang. Forgive the hasty.

——

Read the vernacular:

Daoyuan friends, if you have nothing to do, why don't you come over for a cup of tea? There are some things that need to be discussed in person. Meng Jian's (son of Daoyuan) must have been well. (A hurried invitation from your good friend Su Shi.)
